Onward thru the fog… Pinto kit: 1/24 … The model is of Frolian Gonzales British GP winner…Ferrari’s first Formula 1 winner…What is little known, is that Alberto Ascari, Ferrari’s #1 driver won the next 2 races, at the Nurburgring and Monza… In progress pictures…I’m doing the 1951 German GP winner… With engine showing… With hood in place… Real car at the ‘Ring…again, notice anything missing??? Recent pic of Ascari; still got a little more to do… Gotta’ love Pinto’s wire wheels… Questions, comments welcome! Thanks for stopping by! Tim

That is looking real good Tim. Seeing how good your car looks makes me want to do the FPP 1952 Indy car that Ascari dove. Great job to this point.

Frolian Gonzalez, winner of the first GP for Ferrari in the 375, was photographed sitting on the wheel. The photo was captioned, “when the tires were thin and the drivers fat.”
Tim I like the color, not a bright red, more subdued. I did my Indy version with red over grey primer, not white. What was your technique?
Missing- roll bar?

Dan: Tamiya Italian Red (TS 8) over Tamiya white primer… No cars had roll bars…so it’s something unique to Ferrari… And yes Gonzales was a “large person.”… Thanks again my friend! Tim

Jim: Unlike A J, Ascari used small mirrors… It’s something we take for granted on Ferrari F1 cars… Tim

Jim: We have a winner! The Prancing Horse Logo is on virtually every Ferrari F1 car except in 1950-51. Enzo had used them on the Alfa Romeo’s he raced before WWII. They are on the 1952-53 F2 Ferrari. I have no idea why he did this… Tim

Jim: Highly modified Profil figure…his legs wouldn’t fit so I used the bottom of an Immense Miniatures… Tim

Just a thought about the red paint. I always use red primer, it gives a deeper finish (because the reds are all slightly transparent?).

Guys: Work continues,,,I found out that the 51 German GP winner had large rock guards that hide the exhaust…so I said “I’ll just do the Italian G P winner, since it doesn’t have these rock guards.” Wrong! Check out these pictures… German… Italian… They changed the shape behind the driver…then in 1952, it shows up at Indy looking like the Italian winner with a few mods… So, it’s gonna have the large rock guards,,, The cool exhaust… I’ve never seen a system like this… More on the way… Tim

Well guys, the car was on the test track when a man approached… It’s Il Commendatore! This is a 1/24 figure from JPG Models…Janez is in Slovenia…he took 3 figures, combined shipping, and got it to me in 18 days… I highly recommend him… I wonder what he’s saying? So if you want to, please comment on what Enzo is saying…serious, funny, or legendary… Thanks for looking! Tim

I agree with you Tim on the JPG figures. I order'd at least 4 from him and they're great.

Gentlemen: The Ferrari 375 F1 has crossed the finish line… Enzo Ferrari watched the 1949 Grand Prix season, and was impressed by the Talbots. Not because of their speed, but due to less pit stops. The Alfa Romeo's were notoriously thirsty, but the naturally aspirated cars didn't burn near as much fuel. To see the Alfa, check out Juanjo's superb build: mb2501.proboards.com/thread/10560/1951-barcelona-alfa-romeo-fangioTo see the Talbot, check out Ismael's build: he just set the standard for this Merit kit... mb2501.proboards.com/thread/10576/finished-louis-rosier-talbot-winner Enzo figured he could provide a more powerful engine with better suspension and the car would pick up places by not having to refuel. So the 375 F1 was born. It's first race was the 1950 Italian G P, where it finished second. 1951 was the breakout year. Swiss gp-----2nd and 6th Belgian gp---2nd and 3rd French gp----2nd and 3rd British gp-----1st and 3rd Ferrari's first Grand Prix win---Gonzales German gp---1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th (Ascari's first gp win) Italian gp------1st, 2nd, 4th, and fifth Spanish gp----2nd and 4th This model is the Nurburgring winner...Ascari won going away... So the 1951 World Championship would be decided in Spain. Ascari would win the championship if he either: won, or finished 2nd with Fangio 3rd or lower… But strangely, the race would be decided by tire choice. Ferrari chose a 16-inch rear wheel, whilst Alfa Romeo settled for the 18 inch, which proved to be the better of the two options. Ascari got the pole, but he only finished 4th, for overall 2nd place in the Championship… After the race, Alfa retired from GP racing. This left only the 375F1 as a serious challenger, so for 52 and 53, Formula 2 would allow a wider variety of cars, and became the World Championship. However, Ferrari would be even more dominant, with Ascari winning 6 straight in 52, and the first 3 in 53 (9 straight)! See Krosnyek's beautiful 3D printed model of the F2 Ferrari: mb2501.proboards.com/thread/10555/ferrari-500-f2-3d-printedBefore this streak, Ascari had one more shot at glory: he entered a 375F1 at Indy in 1952. He qualified 19th and only made 40 laps before a tire let go. Ascari was deeply superstitious, and his blue helmet was always worn. I have no clue why the BanLon blue shirt and blue on the nose was used…oddly, Ascari would die at Monza when he was using a borrowed white helmet… Ascari still holds our imagination with these accomplishments: Only Italian to win the F1 Championship in a Ferrari Only Ferrari to ever qualify for the Indy 500 First 2 time World Champ

Great job on the build. The car looks great and really stands out with those bat wings behind the front tires. Ascari was a great one indeed and his figure looks great in your car.

Very nice work. I do like that companies printed figures, they even have fingers. Fernando now does a set of wire wheels that are bigger for the 1/24th Alfa 158. They also I think are more accurate for some 375 versions. He did them for the very nice 1/24th Hachette Alfa 158 model wich has good tires and a great body/grill and goo cockpit but cast plastic wires.
