Great video...A person forgets that back then the race track was all civilian road. Man...can't believe all the people on the track. Like you stated...a lot of trees. Thanks for posting this Tim. Now, I gotta go in and watch more Videos!!! LOL

Would anyone today consider any of the safety improvements he points out as "safety improvements"? I was born way too late.

I’m glad you guys liked it. He’s going past bicyclists who don’t appear to even know he’s there! I can’t even imagine what 185mph down the Mulsanne Straight,at night, in 1957 must be like… “Safety improvements” like deeper sand banks?!?!? Tin

Man...I know Tim. Those guys on those bikes need their head examined for sure. I laughed when he said that for the Safety improvements..."like how deep are they?" LOL Deep enough to sink the car, and you have to dig it out. I guess you had to carry a break down shovel(like the one I had in the ARMY) behind the drivers seat for that reason...wow...

Thanks for sharing the video Tim. It also reminds me of the vintage vids of Monte Carlo. I remember during the race seeing people standing on the sidewalks or sitting on the curbs as cars fly by just inches from them. I guess the old Pan AM races through parts of Mexico many decades ago were even worse. There it was not only vehicles and people, but also cows, goats, birds, and other wild life, hence the bird catcher bars/screens on the windshields of the old Mercedes and such.
This video reminds me of the time when racers were fully committed, all in and to the death.
