Thought I would share some images of my Bowes build as this kit will be arriving to many of you in the coming days. The body has been primed and painted with Tamiya paints and the panel lines are accented with Tamiya panel line accent color (still need to clean them up). Decals and clear coat will follow.

Things always look better with some decals applied.

I found it necessary to run a panel scriber through the panel line on the left side just forward of the injectors to get it to hold the panel line color better. I usually hate brushing Tamiya bottle paints but tried it with Tamiya paint retarder, what an incredible difference !!!

There is a small decal in the bag containing the decals to replicate the screen on the front of the blister on the engine cover.

Now that's looking REAL good Lance. That screen decal looks like real metal screen.

A few notes on the decals, after applying the black decals to the nose and tail, slits in the decal for the tail were made on the rear corners to help them wrap around each corner of the tail. Solvaset is used In 2-3 applications to help the decals lay down. After letting the decals dry over night, I use a hot tap water and a sponge applied with mild pressure to the decals to further set them to the contours of the model. After a few hours of drying, I used Tamiya gloss black from a bottle with Tamiya paint retarder added to brush paint over the black decals to blend them with the under bally of the car.

Hi Lance, Would you please explain further what the paint retarder does? Thanks, Dan

The retarder helps with slowing the dry time and improving the paint leveling, resulting in a much smoother finish with little to no brush strokes.

I should note that the panel lines were cleaned up with a small amount of enamel thinner on a q-tip.

Mix with Tamiya bottle paint up to 10% of the ratio.

Clear coating DID NOT GO WELL!! The Kurtis is now in the Easy Lift to remove the paint, I think I will try something other than Future next time.

I hear that Lance. I've never liked Future Floor wax for modeling. I did use it ( while in the Army....1970s) on my jump boots after I spit shined the heel and toe. That worked pretty good.
