As always, pictures below if you want to skip my drivel. So...my first Fujimi kit. The lovely 126 sporting Ferrari's first turbocharged F1 engine. I had to build it as the iconic 27 of Gilles Villeneuve. A driver I wish I would have gotten the chance to see. Every video clip and photo you see on the web he is just absolutely wringing the neck of whatever he is driving. OOB build other than added plug wires with boots, which I think are fairly prominent on the turbo V6 and I didn't want to leave out. Honestly this wasn't my favorite kit, but that was probably more due to my lack of skills rather than kit quality issues. I found it to be over-engineered in places, but it does provide pretty excellent details and looks the part as I muddled through. I also fought some extremely brittle plastic, or I was being inordinately strong as I was building. I don't think I've ever broken as many things building a model. Nevertheless, I am happy with the end result and would build another Fujimi kit if I came across another at a decent price. I mostly enjoyed the build after I quickly realized you have to test fit 45 times for each part and then attempt to cement, and make sure you land the part back in the same spot on your final placement! But I can't fault the kit for that, because it does work out in the end. Oooh, and it came with a set of rain tires, which I thought was a fun option. So, rain tires installed. Anyways, here's my completed attempt which I am happy to now move onto the completed shelf. Thanks for looking! Kyle

Very Nice Box Stock build. I have this kit and the 126c 2 waiting to be built. I got the FMD Photo etch detail set for both. Your build without the Photo etch shows how nice these kits can be done. Thanks for showing Us. Chris

Well, if these complicated F-1 kits have got you a little overwhelmed, there's always an AMT Modified Stocker kit to relax with! I know you have a couple. Actually, those require a little "engineering" on the bench as well, just beefier parts to deal with.
Back on topic, super nice build of a fiddly kit! I have a few Fujimi kits in my stash, luckily bought before the gold-plating was made known! Probably won't be buying anymore any time soon. I have the C2 kit creeping closer to the top of the pile, but with racing season here, realistically won't get to it before next winter.

Brian, the modified stockers are creeping to the top of the to-build pile. I’m thinking I may try to source some dirt tires and build one as a dirt stock car, and then the other I may just build with the ridiculous 2 piece kit tires as more of a nostalgia build. Racing season will interrupt my building as well and has already slowed it down. I actually spent all day today working on our pavement sprint car. Getting ready for the Little 500 in a couple weeks time. Plenty to do there still. Finally, thank you for the kind words. I hope to see your built C2 sometime!

Can't get enough of the Villeneuve stuff at any scale.
Really nice job on this one. Love it! And appreciate the heads up on what awaits the builder with the neat review.
Trying to work out why the rain tires. Brazil. Imola maybe.... By Monza and Montreal the front wing was above the nose.
I was lucky to find a reasonably priced 1/20th 126 C in Belgium recently. And the got hold of a 1/24th scale Wave kit from the Mandarake outfit in Japan for what amounted to virtually nothing. Kit same price as the postage! I have more 1/25th than 24th and 20th which means not that much. But its Villeneuve!
I saw him peddle a T3, T4, T5 and the 126c many many moons ago up close. By the end of the session or the race I realised that I was just waiting lap after lap to see what he was going to do next time through. Some of the guys looked spectacular, but only because they were getting it wrong. No hype. He would come through at angles no one else would come back from at times. Peterson and perhaps Deppailler had their style that came close, but Villeneuve was just all energy. He could run smooth allot of the time. Needed with the wing cars. But in 1981 without skirts..... Was so gutted when he binned it early in that race at Silverstone that year.
This model does bring back the memories.

Getting ready for the Little 500 in a couple weeks time. Plenty to do there still. Houses and race cars are never finished! Just an FYI, everyone (almost) knocks the tires in those kits, but they scale out EXACTLY at 15" rim diameter and the tire circumference is well within the range that cars used in New York, NJ & PA back in the day. I could show you some pics from the Reading Fairgrounds of Kenny Brightbill (not a small guy) standing by his car in victory lane with Firestone Drag 500's on the rear that came up to mid-thigh on him! 105" circumference was not uncommon, I think the AMT tires scale out somewhere around 90".

A very nice build. The Fujimi kits are nice, not quite as nice as the Tamiya ones, but still nice.
You did a great job Kyle.

Very nice Kyle. Mine came with the rain tires too. I guess I'm in the minority, I think the Fujimi 1/20th's are a step up from Tamiya, but as you found out, they are very precise. You might try their Brabham fan car kit, it makes Tamiya's BT46 seem like a toy. Awkward one to build though. Only problem with Fujimi is they didn't make enough of them.
BTW, anything involving Villeneuve, YES!!

You’re not kidding about houses and race cars! It’s almost never ending running on both dirt and pavement. But that is wild that those guys ran tires that big! Thank you for that information. That’s perfect then, , I’ll just roll with the kit tires as a pavement build and decide what I want to do for sure when I build the other.

Thank you!! I think the Tamiya kits mostly pale in comparison to the detail on this one. And it looks fantastic on the shelf. Each have pros and cons to me but I’ll build pretty much any kit. I’d like to build the fan car sometime. I think if I built another I would do better. Knowing how much test fitting I should do and to be extremely careful with the thin plastic bits. Still happy with how this one has turned out.

Nice build! Good luck in the Little 500! You bring back some neat memories for me. There's nothing like Indiana around the time of the Indy 500. Little 500, Night Before the 500, other races, etc., the electric atmosphere. Nothing like it in the world!

I am actually guilty of not doing my research to check on the rain tire situation. I just got to looking at them and thinking that every other open wheel model I’ve built has slicks, so why not go with something different while I have the option. Hope to see you build one of those kits. And a little jealous you got to see him up close. I built this as a tribute to him on my shelf…as well as it being a pretty car, at least in my opinion. I think this Fujimi kit builds into a pretty great example right out of the box too.

Little 500, Night Before the 500, other races, etc., the electric atmosphere. Nothing like it in the world! Bobby, thank you! We got 4th last year in the Little 500 so we just need to be a little bit better! That race is a ton of work all week and being on pit road doing live pit stops for sprint cars is one heck of an adrenaline rush. I love it. My favorite race of the year and our biggest. We don’t even do any races before it so we can prepare. Other than that we just run the dirt car at local shows or a usac show or 2. You’re absolutely right about week of Indy. Great racing almost every day. I was also fortunate enough to work on a Silver Crown in the last Hoosier 100. That’s a huge loss in my opinion to that week, although it’s still the greatest time of the year.

Hey Gary, Little 500 is awesome. The live pit stops are wild. The car is the #51 of Scott Hampton. It’s red and black. I’ve helped him since 2018. We’ve top fived twice and actually led about 20 laps last year before a broken radius rod bolt led to us fading to fourth. I hope it is on flo this year. It’s been on mav tv in years past.

Kyle: What a great build! Very clean and well done! My favorite Giles Villeneuve quote about this car: “It drives like a big, red Cadillac.” Super powerful engine with a crappy chassis…the genius of Villeneuve is that he won 2 F1 races in this car… Again, a superb build! Tim

Tim Thank you so much Tim! I’ve read that quote before and also heard that Harvey Postlethwaite, arriving to Ferrari later in 1981 speculated that the car only had 1/4 the downforce of Williams or Brabham. What a deficit to have to overcome in that era. Gilles must have turned in some truly incredible drives.
