I got 18 Kodak slides from my Dad from the 1983 500. Any good ways to digitize these?

If you have a digital SLR a good old fashioned slide copier attachment might do the job.I
Alternatively there may be photo processing shops that might offer that service.

The thru the lens method with a back lit slide holder ain't bad but no clean up of dust etc.
Photo print stores can send them off for you at a price.
Recently I dug out an old Agfa scanner with the slide and neg holders. Has all the dirt/dust clean up software built in. Sorted out some F1 stuff |i took in 82 and 83.
Some of the kit out there is not that expensive but maybe not worth it if you only have 18 or so slides to convert. Something I bought late 90s but still works. I have way too much slide and neg material from the 80s and early 90s. Then again. I still have a VHS video player. Only way to watch all my old GPs on there. Sorry. Digressing.
I know I am not round the corner but if you get stuck or find no easy solution.....

I have a slide scanner that should work. Are they the normal size?

Why don't you just use a slide projector, and use a digital camera to take pictures of the projection? If your Dad shot slides, then there should be a projector somewhere. --Frank
