4/1 News of interest
Lance Sellers plans to offer models of every car driven at Indianapolis by Roger McClusky. To complete the kits, Tim Jones (alwaysindy) will offer a standing or seated figure of Roger.
Michael Masi has been named as moderator for Open Wheel Racing following the introduction of new Posting Regulations. Several black and white flag emojis have already been issued for going over the line while bantering. Other similar occurrences have been allowed. This inconsistency may serve to put our hobby into disrepute.
In line with F1 and major league sports, cost caps will be phased into our hobby over the next year. Kit prices of $75 for 1/24 or 1/25 scale and $150 for 1/20 kits are the limits being discussed.
Classic Racing Resins will start shipping the DW12 Aeroscreen version next week.
Netflix is in final production for a “Drive to Complete” series based on our hobby. Feigned animosities and manufactured rivalries will be featured as plucky hobbyists strive to bring their creations to the finish line in the face of harsh but well meaning criticism. Gunther Steiner is senior consultant for the production.
A pair of fascinating initiatives to attract a younger demographic to our hobby are being contemplated:
Silver City Resins will introduce a line of Thomas the Tank Engine themed race cars. These will incorporate a chassis molded in red or black with a separate body that can be painted without masking. The face on the front can be personalized by sending a recent portrait to Kevin. To complete the kits, Tim Jones (alwaysindy) will offer a figure of Sir Topham Hatt.
After a recent viewing of The Beatles Yellow Submarine, Michael Portaro of Indycals is inspired to add a new Peter Max line to his collection. Pastel sponsor logos, psychedelic sunburst patterns surrounding paisley-filled number panels, and a greater use of plaids are promised. To supplement the offerings, Tim Jones (alwaysindy) will provide Blue Meanie and Fab Four figures.
