Well, Patrick, I like it! The D-50 is my favorite F-1 of all time! I have several Strombecker kits/glue bombs, a mint Merit kit and a Herb Deeks resin kit in 1/24th. I really want to find some drawings of the early version with out rigger tanks so that I can do my own.

I have them for you! I'll go to the remote hard drive and pull them out for you.

I have two complete Strombecker bodies of the Lancia-Ferrari if anyone is interested. It is really cool how these turned out. I have a drawing this car that I did when I was a freshman in high school. Thanks for sharing. Jim

Many excellent model builders have 'superdetailed' the 1/20 revival/Casidio metal kits. Most seem to praise the prefabbed 'real wire wheels'.
Indeed they seem really nice, but for one problem: What to do about the spokes. As the model comes, the wheels have 44 spokes. The actual car used 72 spoke 16inch wheels. The difference is quite obvious to sticklers for accuracy. I'm pouring countless hours into making this the best 1/20 model D50 You'll likely see. Even the popular 1/18 expensive version of this car has innacuracies and other problems, such as poorly, but visable crossthreaded drive screws. In ALL cases, the rivets are either done poorly or made with a strip soldered onto the model with 'rivets' embossed from behind. There are way to few of them for sure, and the strip is poorly fastened. In fact, the more I looked at photos of the original full sized machine, the more errors I find. I guess for most folks this is all acceptable, but not a real model making headcase like me.
I'm correcting and adding detail all over this pretty simple model. And, don't get me wrong; I agree that it's a nice model. I'm building from an original kit I've had for over forty years, metal of course. Frankly, I don't much care what material a model is made from.
In my world, models are to be seen, not played with or moved around much. I'm almost sorry to admit this:
I have taken on, and believe I'm the only one so far, filing off those raised lines meant to 'infer' lines of rivets. I've observed many period photos and have determined that means a tad over three hundred holes to be drilled! The rivet heads need to be about 1mm in diameter, with spacing a little less! Yep, I'm nuts, but this is the kind of nutzo thing I do with models.
Anyway, does anyone know of replacement wheels with the correct number of spokes? Right now, the best candidate is a set of 1/18 wheels from, believe it or not, a Maisto Jaguar Mk 2 saloon die cast! They arent metal spoked. They have those deepcast 'spokes'. But, they're better than one might think after removing the 'chrome'. I will go with these and pull some shading and hiding tricks if nothing else exists. They are much better than the actual wires that come with the kit in my own crazed opinion..
Help!!

Contact Fernando Pinto Models. He makes a set of 1/20 scale wheels for the D50.
