I started my second resin kit in February. I did a couple of tweaks on this kit that I didn't do on the Stefan Wilson Gap Gaurd car. I relocated the top hole on each side of the body further back for the front suspension strut as the a-arm was is in the way otherwise. This is also the first time I have used Tamiya putty to fill holes and I gotta say I like the stuff. Its that light blue stuff you can barely see.

I also lengthened the locator holes for the rear struts as they are too short. Plus it gives me some wiggle room when it comes to placement when I glue them in.

And finally in the world of dumb. I decided I wanted to use the wheel on the right because it would show up more of the brake and caliper. However, when I finally decided to really look at some research pictures I quickly found out that the Jean Alesi Fan Force car I plan on doing doesn't use those rims; so there went about 2 and a half hours of prep work on those rims! aarrgghh!! I think its called "research", but don't quote me on that Unfortunately the weather has tanked here so I cannot primer the car outside until it warms up some.

Slow but steady progress. I chrome foiled the rims because the Alclad paint job I tried to do just did not turn out, which meant I had to strip them and do them over. I have decided not to dullcote the tires because a nice set of stickers on the 1/1 cars are pretty darn shiny. The decals are from Indycals.

I mixed my own gloss black and gold for the car and then clear coated it. It does look black from a distance but the close up picture of Jean Alesi's car shows a lot of gold in the paint. I may have got a bit too much metallic in mine but I can live with it. I am going to polish it after the paint has cured for a while.

Its finished! The paint polished out well with the sanding pads but I definitely have too much gold in the mixture. In bright light it almost could pass as a UPS sponsored Indy Car. The decals went on well but its a good thing I ordered two sets of them because I really messed up the roll hoop and had to take the three of them off and start over. I now have 28 Indy cars in my model collection covering the 1980's to 2015. I plan on doing some from the earlier decades but for now I will be moving on to some different subjects.

Now its on to a snap together kit. I am doing the Revell Snaptite Lamborghini Diablo and will be covering it with the camo decals that manufacturers use to disguise the body shape of their test cars. I have made the templates already and the car is painted in the body color. Now I need to let the paint cure for a while and then we'll see how quickly I get sick of decals!

Post the Lambo in miscellaneous models section. I, for one, enjoy seeing a bit of everything. Great job on this build. This was a great looking livery for this era and you’ve certainly done it justice.

Mike, you did a really good job on this one.
Lotus cars were some of the nicest DW12 paint schemes and this was a stunner. You did a great job replicating it. Shame it was a bit easier to photograph at speed than the other cars around it. Would have been interesting to see Alesi in a competitive car at the Speedway.

So THATS why I have all the clear reference photos!! lol It is a shame it didn't run better but then Lotus just didn't ever have the speed in Indy, did they?
