Thanks to you all. This is a pleasant kit to work on, but it's time consuming, Amazing quality for the money. But I have to gripe about something, and the bonnet requires griping. It's made to hinge between the tops and sides, no problem. But there is a center bar to install on the car, and the two panels just sit on it. Except they don't, they fall off like you'd expect. They really should hinge, but I looked at that, it would be awkward.
some tape to hold it
On a lot of my builds, I tend to modify the kit ideas and make my car bodies one piece, that can be lifted off to display a full detail chassis underneath. This has the added benefit of allowing me to make the body panels actually fit together properly. So I decided to glue the hinges solid, then glued the two sides to the center bar, CA'd the lot together and created a one piece lift off hood. Not exactly authentic but it works fine and fits a whole lot better. I added a brass painted rod to the center hinge point as in the 1:1 car and voila, I've got this:
As you can see, I've attached the rear fenders - that was a *****. The fronts (foreground) are even worse. I might make some new braces and attach them to the brake backing plates so they turn with the wheels, which would have made said 1:1 car a bit more practical anyway.
I'm getting there!
cheers Paul

Good re-think on the hood. Sometimes working parts aren't worth the effort. That thing looks huge, and awesome! Nice work, Paul!

If you get around to building it, stock up on paint - you'll need it!

Just looking fantastic. Such a cool car to begin with and you’re building a shining example. Thanks Kyle. I have just realized that I'm going to have to scratch build the windshield. Oh joy.

It's done. Not a difficult kit but it is time consuming. A few mods to make it more a street tourer rather than a race car, but not much really. New windshield frame, clear part cut from a covid face shield no less. Raised the headlights so they don't hit the carbs, deleted the klaxon horns, left off the horrible underbody shield, reworked the soft top and tonneau cover. I added brake lines, fuel lines, ignition wires, some cables and guage wiring, spark advance levers, just basic stuff. You could go forever if you wanted to.
With the bonnet off:
please excuse the weird reflections

And ready for the display shelf. A few minor touch ups needed but I'm completely out of green paint. They can wait.
Not perfect but I'll call it a success.
cheers

I can't imagine going 60 MPH in something like that, to say nothing of tossing it around a racetrack as fast as it could go! What an impressive monster. Great job, Paul, I think you'll be seeing green for a long time to come!
