Well, it will be mostly green. It might even have open wheels.
So far I'm just playing with various ideas what to actually build.
But it's 4.5 litres, supercharged and says Bentley on the cam cover:
It took a couple of months on and off to get that far.
The thing is huge!!

I am not sure I would cover these with bodywork, they should be displayed free standing! Stunning work!

It would make a sweet display engine.
This is really a very nice kit, I might have to buy another one.

That’s a piece of art you’ve created there. Just gorgeous work. Love those old Bentleys

Now the Ferrari is done I can spend some time on this. Other than snowblowing there's no point going outside! If you think the engine was fun, try the gas tank! Two hours to build it and two days to paint it. Between it and the frame it used up one can of paint already. End to end it's 14" long so far.
Credit where it's due, this is a lot of kit for the money. Nice looking seemingly accurate parts and everything fits very well - nice change!

My kind of kit, next step is to install the power train, and it all just clicks in to place.
What you see is about it, top quality but a lot to be added - at least there's room to work.

The floor pan just temp in place, so I can stare at it for inspiration.
The kit builds a replica of the Le Mans car, but I'm wondering can I do something else with it.

Paul this is looking amazing as always. I really do love these blower Bentley’s. Which kit is this? I fear I’m somewhat out of the loop but this is one I’d like to get on my shelf sometime.

Kyle - Paul does a lot of 1/12 kits and the only 1/12 Bentley I know of is the old Airfix/MPC kit. I have it and it is an impressive kit (and box!). Keep in mind that the car depicted by the kit did not win at LeMans. There is a reasonable one on e-Bay, search seller: capt.jimscar-go Paul - Great start on this one, I am still gathering detail pics for mine. This kit just begs for some additional detail. Your painting is perfect and really makes the separate parts stand out.

I started out on this hobby 25ish years ago buying whatever awful kits Walmart had at the time so until I restarted building 3 or 4 years ago I didn’t even know about the big scale stuff. Lol

I'm pretty sure the only difference between the Airfix and MPC kits is the box. The kit quality is outstanding, you couldn't ask for better, but it will require a lot of extra detailing - fine by me!! If Airfix included it all it would say MFH on the box.
A little background, this is the same car the kit builds
Bentley make brand new factory built replicas of it!
The rules of the day for Le Mans 1930 dictated that the cars be 4 seater road legal touring cars. W.O. Bentley never wanted a supercharged car, he preferred the big displacement approach (later adopted by Ford with some success), but there was private funding available that wanted the "blower" and money talks so this beast was born.
Brian is correct, it didn't win. It was sent out as the rabbit, the Mercedes broke trying to catch it, and the big 6 cylinder Bentleys went on to win the race. But the car was so popular that the orders poured in for it, so they ended up making lots of them.
Bentley only made rolling chassis, the cars were all finished off by independent coachbuilders to customer specs so very few were alike. Which gives me carte blanche to build it my way.
Cheers
Paul

LOL As far as having carte Blanche on this build. That’s always a nice feeling. I try never to let historical accuracy stand in the way of me building models how I want. 😂

A little progress - not much, life gets in the way sometimes.
The model will be 15" long when finished, it just looks bigger!
Rear suspension done. These cars had drum brakes actuated by rods and levers. Most were converted to Girlings newfangled hydraulic brake invention (I know it would have been on my to do list!). As I have no idea what the original even remotely looked like, I'm giving this one hydraulics, so I've popped in the rear brake lines.
Front suspension and (working) steering. Still a lot of detailing to do here.

How to build a dashboard? Airfix have a great idea, new to me anyway. The instrument dials are printed reversed, as in the visible side is actually face down. So the decal sheet, they're just black discs:
They go on the back side of some clear parts:
which look like this when you turn it over:
This is then installed through the back of the fascia panel, yielding a clear cover over the black dials. The 3D effect is quite striking and realistic (better than the photo shows).
They should all do it that way.
Some detail painting and added the steel pins for switches.
Paul.

Dash board & chassis both look great! Not sure if the MPC version does the dash that way, I'll check tomorrow. I need to take some pics of my 1/12 Tyrrell project soon, finally getting some painting and assembly done on it. I'll start a separate thread this weekend for it.

Well, between the weather - plus 10, melt, rain, flood, minus 25, flash freeze, snow 6", repeat (I'm not kidding) - and my much loved and ancient computer dying a permanent death and taking with it some of my files, all my links and bookmarks..........grrr! Yeah, model building hasn't progressed much.
Anyway, here we're at, some bits were ready to assemble so I've done a little:
There are hand laced wires available for this car, but the kit wheels don't look bad at all for being plastic, for the moment anyway I'm going with them. They're supposed to look painted silver, not chrome, so it's TS30 if you're curious. The original car had green wheels - just too much green for me.
The tires. My first complaint, you have to cut the insert out as shown above, pain in the rear to say the least, and the casting quality is horrible, lots of cleanup needed. Quite a bit of unforseen work. Drum sander on the dremel did the trick.
more to follow

This is the current state. Very minor mods yielded a 2 seat touring car variant with the tonneau covering a rear luggage compartment. All kit parts, just re-worked to suit. So body on, rad in place, looking a bit car like.
And I'm almost out of paint. 2 full cans of TS43 so far, and nobody seems to have any in stock. Oh goody!
I've added some wiring, fuel lines, throttle linkage, brake lines and made a fluid reservoir. Not going crazy on detail, on this thing where do you stop?
A note on chrome. Whatever plating they used should have gone on the space shuttle. Nothing will touch it. I tried my super clean - nope, bleach, nope, easy off oven cleaner, nope, tree sap remover......nothing. It's even hard to sand. My suggestion, leave it chrome!
Next step is the cycle fenders which a putting up a fight, and they're winning.
cheers
Paul

Awesome work. Love your touring car variant. I can also see why you’d want to do something other than green for the wheels. Sometimes you need a little contrast. Can’t wait to see the rest. I know it’ll look great when finished.

Wow, that's a real beast! Looking great, Paul! Can't imagine cornering at speed with those wire wheels, all the spokes had better be tight!
PS - Just dug out my MPC Bentley, it DOES have the clear/backwards decal dash arrangement!
