Two things I’ve learned in modeling: 1) There is no such thing as an “easy build” 2) I learn a ton about the 1/1 car while doing research Most everyone is familiar with the Mongram sports cars: Scarab, Porsche 904, Chaparral, and this one…the kit represents the 1964 Sebring winner of Parkes/ Maglioli and is a good representation… I learned that the 275P is the same car as the 250P but with a different engine. This opens up some more cars to model.I wanted to try the Starfighter decals and they appear to be excellent… Enough numbers to make the #21 63 LeMans winner… In 63, Enzo Ferrari was looking for his 4th straight LeMans victory. He built the 250P, the first mid/ rear engine Ferrari sports car. Scarfiotti and Bandini, F1 drivers were assigned to #21. So it was an ALL Italian team; car and drivers… Sliced and diced the instrument panel because the kit has the steering wheel almost in the center… Added lip for windscreen… Used kit wheels with PE knockoffs… Comments, questions welcome; thanks for looking! Tim

I have 4 versions of this Monogram kit! Pedro's 330P/Sebring '64, Pedro's 250P/ Canada GP '63, Surtees-Vacarella 250P/Sebring '63, Pedro's 275P/Bridgehamption Double 500 '64. It is a solid body to work with. I also have a resin "kit" from Belgium of Scarfiotti's 330P/The Bridge '64! For continuity I used the kit Borannis on all the models.

Excited to see this one built. The blue #18 with the KRT logos is striking!

Mike Quarterman made a first set of decals for the Andretti 275P. I made it back in the day.

The 1963 and 1964 Le Mans winning car is the same car just a different motor, this fact was just discovered when the car went up for sale in the last year.

They don’t make cars this good looking anymore! Great job on this classic Monogram kit.

How did you get the molded in windscreen wiper off? Oh, a 1/35 scale shovel is just right for the car's emergency dig out equipment. Add a roll of wire and viola!

Patrick: This long (27 minutes) tutorial shows the process similar to what I did…
I just used coarse sandpaper to file it off, then used sand pads starting with 2400 grit thru 12000. First pad used side to side; next pad, up and down and then keep alternating. After that, the Novus polishing then Future…I will put a photo etch wiper towards the end of the build…
Patrick: We have several members that have never seen your “lumpy toy car changed into outstanding model”… I would love to see some of your old builds on here! Please repost one now and then so guys can see your unbelievable builds! And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours! Tim

It’s taking shape… Got to clean up the exhaust…The 250 had 2 and the 275 had 4 pipes Came out better than expected… This car was durable and fast… Most of us know Lorenzo Bandini from the horrible wreck at Monaco in 1967. But he was an accomplished racer having won LeMans in 1963 in this car. He also won the Austrian Grand Prix in 64, the Targa Florio in 65, and The Daytona 24 and the Nuremberg 1000km in 1967. Bandini and Scarfiotti won in 1963 by 16 laps!

Guys: You are Never Too Old to make a rookie mistake…tried to tape the chrome strips on the sides…pulled off the paint!!!!…I used an enamel silver coat(I had the cheap rattle can), and covered with Tamiya lacquer primer, lacquer red and lacquer clear coat…as we should all know by now, DON’T mix enamel and lacquer!!!! Car is stripped and starting over with lacquer ONLY! More to come… Tim

Car is stripped and starting over with lacquer ONLY! More to come… Tim Tim, please excuse me for throwing this in:
The car was primed white lacquer, the white is Tamiya lacquer, the blue is Testors enamel (yes, enamel!), 1 coat Testors clear lacquer, then decalled, then 2 coats Testors clear lacquer. It took 3 attempts using up 2 body shells to get it to work. The trick seemed to be to let the enamel cure for a couple of months and then very light lacquer coats. I don't recommend it, but yes, it can be done!
cheers

Sorry about the setback, Tim. Keep at it!
Nice TA, Paul. Testors clear lacquer is forgiving. A different clear lacquer might give different results.

Alas, I think I still make multiple rookie mistakes every build. Haha. Once of the reasons I keep plugging away at these things. Maybe someday I’ll build something nice. Sorry about your setback. Can’t wait to see the finished product though.

Paul: I forgot the “couple of month’s to dry” part of enamel…🤣! In truth, I am sure that at times I have mixed them (enamel/ lacquer) before…I just never put tape on them…it really shocked me to see it pull off the clear coat, paint and primer, but not the enamel?!?!? It’s all good now and has been painted silver lacquer…more pictures soon… Tim

Looking good, Tim. Sorry about the paint mishap. Oh the joys of modeling! For a simple curbside, it does build into a nice model. Just built one a couple years ago, and ended up using wire wheels from Ferdinand Pinto. Very nice stuff.

And finally the flag drops… Bandini and Scarfiotti workplace… Always feels great to overcome a problem… Dan: ALL clear coated with Mr Hobby: including the windshield… Didn’t notice the cracked rear roundel…will have to redo… Mods made… New lip added around windshield Cut dash to move steering wheel to the right Scratch built windshield wiper Scratch built hood straps because the kit’s we’re filed down installing the lip Scratch built 2 exhausts instead of kit supplied 4 exhausts Comments, questions welcome! Great job Tim. I first built this kit as a teenager when it first was released and have fond memories of that build. I have a couple kits on the shelf as I’ve always been a fan of the 250/275P and I’m now itching to start one, but you’ve set the bar quite high, my friend.

Very nice, Tim. 50s and 60s sports car were the best looking ever IMO. And you’ve done a nice tribute to this LM winner. Dan
