Sadly, Jonathan Byrd has passed. He suffered a massive stroke in 2004 and was never the same, living 5 years as an invalid in his Greenwood home. A warm, caring, generous man, Jonathan dearly loved his racing and especially the Indy 500. It's a sad day and he will be missed. If the world were full of people like Jonathan and Ginny, it would be a wonderful place.

I didn't know the man but I remember him prowling pit lane during qualifying. His passion for Indy was unquestionable. He was a sportsman going against the big businessmen of racing. He was part of an era that sadly, we may never see again.
