I’m back on my feet and in the shop. YAY! Started to look at the Gurneymobile that arrived while I was hors de combat. The vents on the nose were opened up I started to rig some pipes for what I think are oil filters on the gearbox, using AM “calamari”.

Getting back to this after some other projects. I place BMF on the valve covers and embossed the heck out of it. Kevin’s fine detail work helped immensely. Then I painted flat black and when dry carefully scraped away from the raised letters. I cut the tail pipes off and glued the collectors to the exhaust pipes. I’ll add ally tube after the engine is mounted to be sure of the correct angles.

Wires for sparking plugs and exhausts are finished. Injectors covered. Some more fettling needed there. Still touch up to do.

Some small steps. Fuel pump and lines added to upper rear frame. Also added some tabs to help attach it to the main frame. Inserted metal pins into the ears for more secure rear suspension attachment. Hollowed behind the seat so the engine can move forward. Also notice the angle shape added to support the engine cover. Moving the engine forward allows the upper rear frame to marry to the mounting ears on the trannie. Added some plumbing and paint to the rear. Going to add the upper rear frame after installing the engine so the fuel pump lines will be installed then.

I had originally installed the intakes offset to match my idea of the offset of the two cylinder heads. Moving the engine forward created a too close fit with the engine cover. I popped off the intakes, lightly sanded the inside tops for clearance and replied more in line. With cover on there will again be room for he mesh. Analyzing the final product guides the intermediate steps.

I'm learning a lot already so thanks for sharing your progress. How did you create the screen over the injectors?

Thanks 2lapsdown. The screen is cut and folded material from the parts box. I’m not sure of the source maybe an old filter. . . From something. . . Sorry I’m not more definite, at my age vagueness is a state of mind.

Having probably gone as far as I’m going to for now on the engine/transmission, I’m now looking at the wheels. Removing the extra resin from the kit wheels left a very thin spoke structure. I’ll use some wheels/tires I had from a previous project. I’ll be able to insert a rod in order to align hub and wheel

There was an attachment point molded on the face of the brake caliper that interfered slightly withe the rim. It was removed and now there’s room.

On reflection, I realize that some of my posts represent major deviations from the kit instructions. I do not, in any way, intend to suggest that an excellent model can not be built as per the instructions using the parts in the box. Kevin has provided a superior kit of an iconic car and the modeler who completes one will be proud to add it to the collection.
As you who have followed my ramblings over the years may know, I sometimes use a kit as a starting point and add or subtract in a sometimes over the top attempt to produce what is in my minds eye. Whether my choices are always correct or not, they are only my interpretations and should not be considered as infallible. As a famous modeler once said, “build what you want, the way you want to”.

I agree with you 100%, Dan. I'm the same way with ANY kit. It's a "starting point" for the type of build in my mind also.

I just really enjoy seeing everyone’s processes and how they go about their builds. I’m pretty crude and unrefined as a builder so it’s a great way to observe new techniques even if I’m not going to be the one to employ them. So I just love these WIP threads.

I cut several tube within a tube pieces for the rear hub and opened the hole slightly. And together For the front I drilled into the hub a bit and inserted a length of metal rod.

Well finally! He’s back. Easter travel, spring yard work etc. etc. conspired (or is that colluded?) against any modeling. For my next trick, I oblueterated these. Attaching various things to other things will now commence.
