So this is the car that inspired me and made me try to pull this off.. it was a promo offered only thru FAO Schwartz. Below this is what alot of us have seen and seems to be the overall best choice for 80's-90's builds. I was going to just use this casting as is for my builds cause it does look the part...but something was missing. A side note, I bought 7 of these gulf gas station promos to get started. So lets first do what the hot wheels crowd do. A simple wheel swap and maybe some customizing. This results in removing the body and other modeling skills and tools A little bit of polishing, driver removal and some aftermarket custom wheels. Certainly looks the part, but still a bit hotwheel-ish. So after some more trial and error with different wheels, I finally hit on a winning combo that has the looks of most the cars that I think are missing in this scale. The body is just sitting on the chassis so please forgive the gaps. So far things are looking good! Next we''ll look at further modifications for vents and side pods. Also I'm working on other years and castings..

Looks good. Have you seen the Racing Champions 1/64 cars from the 80s? I always liked the look of them.

To me they looked kind of clunky but maybe because of the minimal graphics?
