Ebbro Lotus 91 Elio de Angelis

Just finished this project on that I’ve had on the bench on and off since probably March or April. This kit has lots of beautiful details but also has its own issues. Having built this one I wouldn’t mind getting another crack at it so I may try to source another kit and build the 12 car and make it a team set since the 91 has always been a favorite of mine. I think it ranks as one of the most beautiful no front wing cars built and was happy to snag this kit off eBay. I had my problems with this build but the excellent upgraded decals from Michael at Indycals Helped the finished product. The kit decals are not good at all. Ugly yellow instead of gold lettering and of course no mention of tobacco or Penthouse. Anyway, here’s the finished product and I’m on to the next one. Got a few more in progress but only the spray painting done on a wedge turbine and an 89 Lola so it will probably be one of those two. Thanks for looking.

Kyle, a beautiful Lotus build. The early 80s are certainly distinctive when they had no need for front wings!

Thank you! I have to source another kit sometime to build the 12 but I think I will re-add it to my build list. It was enjoyable but I think I can do better.

Thanks Jordan! I’m normally not a huge fan of the no front wing look however I’ve always really loved the lotus 91.

Hey thanks! No great ideas on this one other than I recommend getting some decals from Michael at Indycals. It’s really a lovely kit. Just a few fiddly parts if I remember correctly. Just take your time and test fit everything a few times. Builds up extremely well if you devote some time to it. I have a tendency to rush myself sometimes so that was my issue with this one. Also in typical fashion the engine cover doesn’t want to sit on there exactly how you’d like but I don’t worry too much about that unless I’m doing a curbside. I enjoyed building it though and I hope you do as well

Thanks Michael! I’m happy with how this one turned out. Would not have been possible without you because the kit decals are really not great. I’m sure their quality is ok but the car wouldn’t look right if you built it with them. So thank you!!
