Wow.
May sound odd to you guys, but if I do go for one I will have to factor in having it built by a pro builder I know. I always worry I can never do certain gorgeous kits justice with my level of building and finishing. And this is oh so exquisite....

Just for clarification, this replicates the 1967 Belgium GP winner.

Appreciate the clarification. I have had this digital pic saved of the number 27 car which I think was the one raced at Spa in 1966. So evocative of the place to me. Would it take much to retro this kit into the previous year's car? Maybe I will get two!

Yes, this the car as it raced in the first part of the 1966 season with the Climax 4 cylinder engine. I am considering doing this using an Offy as my starting point.

If you look at the headers in the pic,It shows one set. This is the conventry 4 cyl. Here's a pic of the one I might take on. Here's some info on the 66 and 67 season... The Eagle Mk1 made its race debut at the 1966 Belgian Grand Prix, with a single car entered for Dan Gurney. The Eagle made an instant visual impact, with its gracefully crafted chassis clothed in dark blue paint, with a white-lipped radiator opening and a single white stripe running the length of the car's dorsal surface; an elegant interpretation of the USA national racing colours. Unfortunately for the team the car, despite its good looks, failed to finish. For the introduction of the new V12 engine at the 1966 Italian Grand Prix, Gurney took the wheel of the new car, and was joined by compatriot Phil Hill in the older Eagle-Climax. Once again it was an inauspicious start, with Hill failing to qualify, and Gurney retiring during the race. Gurney did score points during the season, at both the French and Mexican events, but on both occasions this was with the Climax-powered car. For the 1967 Formula One season the Climax-engined chassis 101 was sold to Canadian driver Al Pease, and all AAR chassis ran as Eagle-Weslake machines. The season proved to be intensely frustrating for all concerned. Although Gurney and sometime teammate Bruce McLaren managed to qualify the Eagle-Weslake cars in the front two rows of the grid on no fewer than eleven occasions from the season's eleven Grands Prix, only two cars finished a race. That both of these finishes were in podium positions highlights the raw speed of the Eagle Mk1. AAR's first major race win came in the 1967 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch, with Gurney taking the aluminium-chassis 102 to victory in this prestigious non-Championship season opener. 104 was introduced at Zandvoort, the Netherlands, early in 1967; the lightest and fastest of the Eagle Mk1 vehicles, it was with this car that Gurney scored the team's only Championship victory: the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix.

Maybe use one of the two head/valve covers from the Tamiya Lotus 25 Climax V 8. I know it’s 1/20, but it seems small for that scale. Weber’s? Fab some exhausts? Is the Hewland the same? An interesting thought experiment. Dan

Good link Paul. I'm a member of that site but hadn't made it there yet. Thanks for doing the pic work for me. Some great engine pics there. I think you got the right idea with the Offy engine. At least that's what I'm going to use for my build. As far as the side drafts go...I'll use the resin ones I poured...I think...LOL

Afternoon Fellows, Has anyone tried using the BEAUTIFUL Lancer Eagle-Climax 1/24 slot car body? Dynamic made a V-12, Lancer was the BEST and most accurate of ALL slot car clear body mfgs. The pre-painted blue looks good but unfortunately the wrong shade of blue. Dynamic made a nice set of Dan Gurney Eagle decals (plenty on eBay) #36 and #30 and AAR shields and with the MPC eagles should make a nice nestfull. Thanx. John
