Hi all! I have recently caught the modeling bug again after not having built a model in 20 some years. Here is a little background on myself: I attended my first Indy 500 just a few months ago and had a great time. I live in Dallas now, so I've been to a number of the Indycar races at Texas Motor Speedway. I also experienced the CART/TMS fiasco personally. I guess it was good I didn't buy stock in CART (ticker symbol: MPH)! I've done a lot of sim racing, with most of my "seat time" in a Lotus 33 using the Grand Prix Legends sim. This has developed my interest in 60's era Formula 1 and hope to do some modeling of these cars as well. I have the Tamiya Lotus 25 and 65 Honda in the queue to built right now. I've also done a fair bit of sim racing in a sim called "iRacing", primarily in the Star Mazda. Though, I kind of got burnt-out on it and have gone back to running Grand Prix Legends again. Rumor has it that iRacing will soon announce that IMS and Indycar will be made available in iRacing. If and when this occurs, I will likely resubscribe to service again. I was also into 32nd scale slot car racing, though I haven't done much lately. Its just hard to find guys to run with. Here some pics of my tracks: www.oldslotracer.com/Stuart.html

We come aboard Stu!
Many of us here are into 1/32 Slot Cars, like myself. I have a "small" collection of Strombecker 1/32 6 in 1 Watson Roadsters I race from time to time, We, myself and Chris Etzel used to buy them on ebay, (Not to bad back about 8 years ago...) and then detail them the best we could to make them look like the real cars. And we had to keep them original in parts too....so the racing was based upon how good you "drove" them on the track...no "improvements" to make them stick on the track better. The old fashioned way.
Best to you
Russ

Russ,
I grew quicky tired of the magnet racing and built a 3 lane routed track with copper tape. Most of cars I ran were late 60's and 70's era sports cars.
I do have 3 24th scale Cox cars which I am reconditioning which include a Ford GT40, Lotus 40 and a BRM F1 car.

Hey Stu, it is great to have you here. Another Texan, another sim-racer, etc. My kind of guy!!
I have been sim-racing since the early 90s (including GPL) and online for about 5 years now. Mostly online in NR2003 and rFactor as iRacing is expensive (and I'm still a little sore about NR2003). Right now I mostly race sports cars and IndyCars mod in rFactor when online. This weekend, I will be trying to race my way into a special 500 mile event using the CART '98 mod at Michigan ;D
Also, I've been to 18 of the 20 IRL races at TMS and was on the way to the track for the TMS CART race (was a little happy to see it cancelled, I've never gone to a race before dreading a possible fatality).

Thanks for the welcome Jordon. iRacing can be a bit expensive but if you manage your spending and take advantage of the discounts, it can be made a bit more affordable. I also have rFactor but it just never felt right to me, whatever "right" is. One nice thing I like about iRacing is that is "arrive and drive". You don't have tinker with it the way you do with GPL or rFactor. Do you live in the DFW metroplex? I'm in Duncanville.
