My favorite Indycar of all time is the 1972 Parnelli. Always loved the Viceroy and Samsonite livieries. For years I wanted to make this car but of course no donor cars were even close to try and attempt it. One day out of the blue about 5 years ago, Lance Sellers tells me he is working on this car for me and in 1/18th scale to boot! About the same time a guy named Chuck Jones contacted me. He had seen a post I wrote on the VPJ being my favorite car and that I had over 200 photos of it. Chuck then told me he had a real VPJ that he was restoring and would I mind sharing the many photos I had with him. Of course I said yes and told Chuck that one day I hoped to build this car in 1/18th scale. That got the ball rolling and Chuck shared actual drawings of the car to me which in turn I sent off to Lance. Fast forward to present time an here you have it. The first VPJ I built was a replica of Chuck's car. Maybe you have seen it at Indy or possibly Road America last week.
Many, many thanks go out to Lance for making my dream a reality. Lance cast the body, wings, Offy engine and even vacuum formed the drivers cowling like on the real car. Chris Jernia designed and 3D printed the wheels and then Lance cast them in resin as well. The decals except for the Samsonites and the Vel's Parnelli Jones decals (Indycals) (Thanks to Paul Erlendsen for helping here as well) were made by me to match those on Chuck's car. I scratch built the front and rear suspension using sheet plastic, aluminum and plastic rod and some Carousel 1 Offy dress up parts. All the water hoses are silver solder and I made roll bar and several other pieces. All and all I am quite happy with the results. Next one I do will be a Mario version of some sort.
