I attended the 2 Texas races this year like I have since 1997. It has gone from 4 tickets to 10 tickets because of adding family members and friends. Once again it was a blast, but the cracks are showing...I firmly believe that was the last Indycar race at TMS...with Gossage now gone, it’s a done deal...they just no longer give a sh*t...move the race up?...we left where we were immediately and missed the first 16 laps...people were still coming in after 30+ laps...almost no tshirt and other trailers... the highest ticket prices we’ve ever paid...this is NASCAR country, so no one cares when their crowds are so much larger than IC’s...
On a happier note, when we sat down Saturday, we were directly behind some folks speaking a foreign language... I introduced myself and said “welcome to the good ole USA!”...they explained they were from the Netherlands, and the older gentleman said “I’ve been trying to tell that kid how to drive!” I said Veekay? And he said “that’s my son.”... Wow! Got to meet “Marine” which ain’t how it’s spelled...he was so cool; texting Arie and laughing and joking...my oldest, Travis is very outgoing so they talked most of the race...when she saw a picture and found out how old Rinus was, my daughter-in-law said “I have 3 daughters!”...but the coolest thing was, late in the race, Travis commented “Rinus needs a yellow badly!” Seconds later, out comes yellow...Marine says “you are good luck!” and grabbed Travis and kissed his forehead (Travis shaves his head)...he is certainly proud of his son...so that made up for the bad vibes...
We may have to change to Barber if TMS leaves...further away, but a great place to watch Indycars...
