This is a wip of Buddy Lazier's 96 Indy 500 winner. I did one of these about 9 years ago or when ever the Revell kits came out and I was just getting back into building. Well I was contacted by a fellow Lazier fan asking if I would sell it. Since I was planning on doing another now that my skills have advanced I decided to sell it to him. This is the start of the new one. This car will have full engine detail , interior detail, all wiring and engine plumbing and front shock details. I have aleady removed the front shock cover and fabricated the top part of the tub where the shocks go. I started fitting the engine in place, it came from an old amt kit but it has been shortend and shaved the bottom and the tops of the cylinder heads to fit in place.(but hopefully the prototype that posted on here earlier will be ready and I could use that in stead. I will continue to post photos as I progress

Hi Eric, I got really confused about the Reynards. One of the members here posted that they did not run in the Indy 500, just CART. when I was asking about the Montoya cars. I have learned a bunch about the period up through 1964, but any thing since then really has me clueless. I see you are converting a Revell Reynard. That is the source of my confusion! LOL!! Some guys (present company excluded) seems to feel that a *newbie* should know these things......... I learn quick, but I have no source for information on anything *modern*. I really appreciate your craftsmanship, and I am looking forward to seeing this one come to fruition! Mongo

The 1994 and 1995 Reynard shared identical tubs. The only difference was a hold in the bulkhead to accomodate the weight jacker (Reynard raised the tub price from 1994 to 1995 by $50K which makes that one expensive hole!). Many of the other components were also the same. Things changed with the 1996 and beyond, although the general look remained similar. One 1995 was sold to us "some assembly required" by Walker Racing and came to us in Valvoline colors. A great many other accessories and parts that were also salvaged from the remains of Stan Fox's 1995 Indy crash found their way onto both Treadway cars. The other car, eventually destroyed at Vegas by Johnny O'Connell, was a 1994 updated and assembled from loose parts that we inherited from the defunct Project Indy Reynard of Christian Danner and others. All that said, the Revell kits are NOT the 1994-95 version.

Mongo Lots of Reynards ran at Indy. Both the 95 and 96 winners were Reynards. The first year of the IRL, most of the cars were Reynards, ( the IRL GForce and Dallara cars did not run until the second year). Ford supplied Cosworth engines to any IRL team that wanted them, which was odd, since GM was one of the major players pushing for a new series as a home for their Oldsmobile ( later Chevrolet) stock block engines. So, for the 96 season, both Champcar and IRL ran Reynard cars. I don't want to start another "split" mess, but that is the way it was. Craig

Reynard made their first IndyCar in 1994. Michael Andretti won in the car's madien voyage in the season Mikey drove for Chipster after coming back from F1. Jacques was Indy's ROY and won at Road America in the Reynard.
In 1995, Jacques Villeneuve won the 500 and CART PPG Cup in a '95 Reynard which was an evolution of the '94. In 1996, the series split with the IRL ran '95 and older chassis so Buddy Lazier won the 1996 Indy 500 in a '95 Reynard which is why Bill Jorgensen does one car for both wins.
What CART did in 1996 was to update their chassis specs so the '96 Reynard looked similar but was not the same as the '95 car. So, a Reynard never ran at Indy after 1996. The '98 car that Revell kitted was an evolution of the '96 car and so is similar but not identical to the '95 Reynard that won Indy in '95 and '96.
What these guys are doing (which is perfectly fine) is taking a little artistic license and backdating the kit. Some of the mods they do really help the accuracy of making the '98 car more like the '95.

Mongo,
Jordan is correct. What some of us are doing is back dating the 98 cars to the older models. Mongo, if you ever need any help just let me know. I have alot of photos reference stuff and other stuff covering the later years. Only person that has probably built more reynards than me is Jordan. Heck, I have even mad them look like 98 and 99 Dallaras. If you look at the pics posted under my race room you will see a 98 and 99 winner. They were built using the Revell Reynard kits. Unfortunately I have not made any more progress on this car. I am getting ready to start on the body mods once I hade removed the front shock cover and made the filler panel. I have been very busy with other projects for other people and work lately. I have a week off later this month and the wife doesn't. Should be able to make alot of progress then. Will psts pics later.

I knew the Revell kits were of '98-'99 Reynards, I just got confused by the other person saying that the Reynards didn't run at Indy. The '98-'99 Reynards didn't run at Indy! Now I understand a lot better. This is just an area I am not well versed in, and there are a coule of that era cars I would like to build. Coming from a stock car racing background (I coined the term Dark Side NASCAR for the '48-'72 period), my knowledge is there. I have sourced several books and magazines on the *Roadster Era* at Indy, and I have a favorite Indy driver (both Vintage and Modern! LOL!!), though! ;D Thanks! Mongo
