Since it has been a little quiet around here lately,I thought I would post some stuff I have been working on. This is the 68 Unser winning car. Using the MPC kit. The engine came from an old glue bomb( I have the resin reproduction but thought I would try to restore the original first) the only non kit parts on the engine are the plug wires. Everything else is painted on details. I will be using decals from Indycals.

This is somewhere on the "to do" list. Don't know when, especially since I haven't gotten all of the pieces yet... lol

Mark,
Just contact Norm Vebber at Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland. He has a GREAT conversion kit for the Gurney Olsonite Eagle kit and I have one of those if you need one.
Best to you

I agree with Russ. The Gurney Olsonite kit seems to be a pretty easy kit to find and combining Norm's conversion with one of those is MUCH less costly than getting the original Rislone kit. The *basic kits* are the same as far as I can tell except for the engine set ups.. A bonus is that the *left over* Ford engine form the Olsonite kit works great in some of the resin kits!

Mongo,
You are correct. The 2 kits are the same with just a few differences. The Gurney kit came with 2 different engine choices. The Gurney Westlake and the 4 cam Ford. While the Unser kit came with the turbo offy engine and the tractor kit. Both kits came with the engine cowlings for all three engine variation but the tail cowlings were different between the 2 kits as the offy version had a cut out in it.
I also agree about going with Norm's conversion for this car. I have one and it is exceptional !! I just wanted to challenge myself and try to restore one from an old built kit I won on ebay. I think it came out okay. The only problem now is I have Norm's conversion sitting. But that's a good problem to have.

It has been many years since i had the Rislone kit, but I remembered the kits were virtually identical except for the engines. I got an extra Olsonite kit to do the Rislone again! ;D I I agree, it is fun to rebuild ol dkits and turn them back into a nicer looking model. Yours looks like it is really turning out nice! ;D Mongo

Gee, guys, I just sold an original Rislone on e-Bay (complete with tractor, good original decals and a Cady sheet), did any of you bid on it? Only went for $42.00, how much will an Olsonite and a conversion kit cost? Where oh where are the "big bucks" when I'm selling something? Anyway, nice start on this one, I have another original to get to someday, hope it looks as nice as yours when I get to it! Please keep us updated on your progress!
