It's finally going to happen. Paul Erlendson Is it in bare carbon fiber? That will be fun to watch if so. Lol

It's been done (my buddy Steve Mohlenkamp did one many years ago). The Watson figure will be a nice touch - I never knew he tested it. IMO that car has some of the best lines of any F1 car ever.

Nah, it needs flow enhancing convoluted structures in the area behind the front wheels, an eight level front wing, flat nose with a proboscis and spiral twisted air deflectors along the sides leading to another multi piece diffuser. Also tiny wheels with tires that wear rapidly when they aren’t blowing up. And add weight, lots of weight.
Seriously though, Michael, I quite agree that is a good looking race car. And I believe Eddie found it easier to enter the series than is currently the case. And didn’t they hit the ground running, finishing the season ahead of Terrell, Lotus and Brabham!

I love test cars. That’s nothing new to a lot of you here at this group. But, the Jordan 911 was one of the first to peak my interest. And yes, I’ll explain to those of you who are wondering why I’m using the title 911 instead of 191 a little later. I’ve played around with creating a set of templates to do a complete carbon fiber model but every time I got close to starting the process something else came along. I first consulted with Mac at Mac’s models as he had done a very nice 1/18th scale version. He was good enough to share his templates with me, but, I never felt confident that I could translate them to the 1/20th scale Tamiya kit. Then a couple of years ago I had a conversation with Steve Mohlenkamp about his wonderful effort. Unfortunately, he did not save a record of his templates. A while back, Studio 27 came out with an extensive CF sheet for the Tamiya 191 kit and it went a long way to getting me to take on the project. Still a long way to go, but a start, especially with some of the smaller fiddly detail pieces. Still, I wasn’t able to commit to tackling the project. Over the years I had talked with Mathew Wells of Scale Motorsport about creating a set of templated CF decals for the car. Finally, just before I started this thread he said yes! So, I sent him my kit and all the photos I’ve collected over the years and here are the results. These sheets are not yet on the Scale Motorsport site. Think of this build as a kind of Beta Test for Matthew’s set of decals. I’ve never tackled a decal project like this so all encouragement, feedback and suggestions will be welcome. Paul Erlendson

I’ve been studying and doing my homework. Here’s a great video by Mathew Wells showing in detail how to use Scale Motorsport decals. I’ve certainly learned a lot and I’m sure I’ll be referring to this often. After I posted this I gave the link a try and it still works. Hit “Learn More” and you will be taken to the video. Then just hit play. Paul Erlendson

Been spending most of my bench time on the Lola, but this afternoon I got the Jordan out and did a little test fitting and gluing a couple of body parts together. From doing this and comparing my 911 test photos, I’ve found that there will be a little more back dating of the model than I thought. I also started studying where the Scale Motorsports templated decals will go. Pretty straight foreword as Matthew has labeled them via kit part number and then left and right. Paul Erlendson

Paul Erlendson I think those need to be done in neon Michael, I knew of some through Mac’s Models, but unfortunately he’s closed his operation and I was not able to get a hold of him. Now, if you wish to make sure my build is correct as possible……… Paul Erlendson

Very little to report at this time. I’m working on how far I can go on a subassembly, as per how I will decal them. I’m also doing the standard cleanup and prepping everything for primer. I’ve also started to remove the molded in harness on the seat. Paul Erlendson

Look what showed up in the mail the other day! John Watson helmet decals from Indycals using their new fluorescent process. I’d best add Wattie’s helmet to the rest of the parts being prepped. Thanks so much Michael! Paul Erlendson

Mathew Wells sent out an email yesterday to announce that he is retiring. scalemotorsport.com/I feel bad that I haven’t progressed faster on this build but hopefully I can get back on it soon! I did take advantage of Mathew’s sale and stocked up on CF decals so I have plenty to complete this model. Mathew, I thank you for all you have contributed to our hobby. I have fond memories of meeting Mathew at the GSL so may years ago and our conversations about this project . And now back to “Build Something!” Paul Erlendson
