I am excited to announce that Indycals is an associate sponsor on the number 81 Dragonspeed entry driven by Ben Hanley in 104th Indianapolis 500! Our first ever involvement in car sponsorship at any level (might as well start high, right?).

That's outstanding, Michael! Congratulations. I wonder, with the No Fans rule, will you (and others) be able to access the cars for photographs? And, looking at the starting grid, looks like some Seriously complicated colors & markings! Tom

I assume you did some 1:1 scale decals for this? If it was good enough for Revell on top fuel and funny cars and Tamiya on Formula 1, Indy HAS to be good enough for Indycals! Good luck, hope your car does well.

Good for you, Michael. To all of us: Enjoy the day and watch the action. I know where I will be from 1:00 p.m. on. We are blessed that the 500 is even running and that Roger Penske is in place. Will we ever find photos of the winner so we can have a correct color discussion and where to put that decal. Jim

Here is the Dragonspeed/Indycals Special. The red bar above the Chevy logo on the tire ramp is the Indycals.net web address.

Will this be available for popular scale sizes?

Will this be available for popular scale sizes? Probably - part of my sponsorship deal was that I'd build a model of the car for the team... but it will be challenging for the builder between the dayglo red and chrome blue.

Jim I need to get permission from Bobby Rahal to make the winner decals available as Eric and I do diecasts for him, but I don't expect that to be a problem - I 'did' ask him directly if I could offer them in 1/25 scale in case they won last year, which would still give him exclusivity for his 1/18 cars, and he was cool with it.

I guess everyone is being real polite and so I will buck that and ask how much was....
Nah. Only joking.
I have been involved on the marketing side of a couple of sponsor deals for some lower formula stuff years ago. Always came out well worth the expense for the sponsor and assume this was the case here too. Passion meets profession taken to another level. Great mix.
What I will ask is.....
Assume the sponsorship meant not breaking the streak. Possibly some hospitality/team involvement. Figured a build or two would come into it. Networking well worth the time for future projects with Dragonspeed and other teams. Assume the area for the decal on the car (decent location that) was mutually agreed.
Don't know how these things work but would 'Greenlight' need your permission to do the car correctly fully liveried?
Don't have to answer of course.
I found the returns for my past clients well worth it and that was only at regional level. Just had to set realistic targets on what they would get out of it.
My thinking is you might start a trend of interest with some folk on here where they can get just as involved or get their firms involved but wouldn't know where to start.
But then you may already have had a bundle of PM messages along these lines.
My compliments on the venture.

For me it was a lot of money. For getting my company on a car in the Indy 500 - it was a bargain. I was told one owner turned down an offer 10x what I paid for a similar arrangement. I had access to their suite which had a hot dog machine, and more importantly air conditioning, but no view of the track, so I just popped in once or twice to cool off and grab a quick bite. Some of the guests also got Pagoda Suite passes to watch the race from, but they didn't have any left by the time I signed on, and I'm fine with that. One of the other sponsors on the car was attending their first 500, so on a day when so many streaks (unofficially) ended, his started.
