It is a brand new race track/proving grounds, so what better way to start motor racing there than two days of motorcycle racing, with fifteen races scheduled! Unfortunately, I'm talking about the 14th of August, 1909, and that new facility was the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That new surface began to break up, throwing chunks of dirt, and forming ruts so bad that the second day is cancelled. Maybe, just maybe, if they could find some way of paving it with something solid, the new track could survive? By the way, A.G. Chapple won that first, August motorcycle race.
