I just received a Penske IRL Indy Car conversion I purchased on Ebay. The kit came with no instructions or references for the decals. It came with decals to model Gil de Ferran or Helio Castroneves 2001-2004 IRL Cars. It also included Revell's 1/25 th Scale Team Rahal's Shell Reynard as a donor kit for parts. I have a Target Reynard and a Castrol Reynard. Which of these 3 kits would be the best to use for a donor kit or are all 3 the same? I want to build Helio's car. Can anyone tell me where I can find references for this build and any advice that will help with the build. I am new to building Indy Car models and have absolutely zero reference material on Indy Cars of even know where to look for references or books. Everything I know I have learned right here on this web site. Thanks, John groundeffect06

From our all knowing Reynard guru himself: Players was the '98 body, too. Revell kitted 8 version of this car Eagle - '98 body, BBS wheels, only Good Year kit so was only kit that did not come with a set of rain tires Shell - '98 body, BBS wheels, easy to miss the fact they omitted the Miller Lite decals Visteon - '98 body, OZ wheels Target - '98 body, chrome OZ wheels, no Zanardi driver decals Forsythe - '98 body, chrome BBS wheels, Canadian Release and had no Player's marking ("Forsythe" never ran on the car) Motorola - '99 body, chrome BBS wheels Pioneer - '99 body, chrome BBS wheels Miller Lite - '99 body, chrome BBS wheels, had actual alcohol markings so this is an *adult collectable* Jordan G

Which car would you use? Team Rahal, Team Target ( Jimmy Vasser), Dan Gurney Team Castrol?

John,
Without seeing what you got, it sounds like you have a Bill J. resin body and a Revell CART kit to use for conversion parts? If so, basically your going to use the suspension wheels, and tires for the conversion. The wings from the kit are pretty much wrong for the conversion so if you don't have the resin ones you will have to make those from sheet plastic. I'll post the one I did later to give you an idea.
A good source for references are here, indy500.com, etc. Use google and type in what your looking for and check the photos.
Dr. Dave

If I can figure out how to use Photobucket and post a picture to this web site. I'll post a picture of the conversion kit and what I have for everyone to see.
Thanks, John groundeffect06

Use the OZ wheels from the Target kit.

Looks like you have everything you need. Unless I'm mistaken that is a Bill J kit.

Looks like you might be missing at least the tires and wings. The Reynard kit will give you good tires but like Dr. Dave said - the wings are not really even close in shape or looks. That's a G-Force resin body so the decals will do Gil's 2003 Indy 500 winner but Helio was in a Dallara that race. I'll have to do some research to see what if/when Helio drove the G-Force in 2003 if you really want to do a Helio car. *I think* 2003 is the only season that Penske flirted with the G-Force.
The other car you can do with your stash is to take either the Shell or Castrol car and make Helio's 2000 or 2001 ChampCar with the Speedline M@r1b0r0 decals. The decals are really designed for the 2000 but the '01 car is pretty close sponsor-wise *I think*.

Helio practiced in the G-Force but raced the Dallara. The second G-Force was farmed out to Sam Schmidt and driven by Richie Hearn.

Does anyone know where I might could get the correct wing for this car or good references if I have to scratch build. Since this will be my first resin conversion I think I will do Gil's 2003 Indy 500 Winner. John

Look in Mike's photos. That will show you what the wings look like. Should not be that hard to build.
