Lol Color debate time!!!!
Let me sell myself before just blurting out the answer.
About 8 years ago I knocked myself silly doing hours of research on this and came to the conclusion that Tamiya TS-53 Deep Metallic Blue was the best.
I know there's others that would disagree with me and say its way darker. Ive watched old films and from my knowledge if the color shows up as blue on film it must be not too dark as a very dark blue would just look black. The TS53 is a way more gratifying color than the other darker blues.
Blue is the most difficult color to photograph, so basically every picture looks like a different shade of blue.

John, Sorry to be late responding and you have probably already painted your car. I built Bill Jorgensen's kit several years ago and used Testors #1211 Dark Blue. I realize I am an unskilled rattle can man but I was happy with that. Were metallic paints available in 1951? Good luck. Jim

I haven't painted yet Jim. I'm in the process of selling a house. Thanks for your input, it's always welcome.

Oohh! Oohh! An automotive history question! Yes, metallic paints were available in 1951. Metallic paints were introduced in the 1930's, first using actual fish scales, which made such a paint job expensive, and later, with aluminium flakes, that made such finished lower priced.
Now, about Lee Wallard's car...

When I built mine years ago I use a Testors Model master Copenhagen Blue Metallic which was spot on, but is no longer available. It is a Dark Blue with a touch of metallic. I know this is not a lot of help but it gives you a idea of the correct color.
