Tonight, I finished my replica of the Bugatti 35B Rene Dreyfus drove to victory in the 1930 Monaco GP. Dreyfus, one of the finest racers in an era chock full of them, defeated the works Bugattis of Louis Chiron and Guy Boriat in a privateer entry. Dreyfus, a fast driver as well as a brilliant tactician, added an extra fuel tank in the passenger seat under a tonneau cover. The extra fuel tank allowed him to run the distance without a pit stop, whereas Chiron had to stop. It was a crucial ingredient to a great victory. I built the 1960s Monogram kit mostly box stock, with the exception of stripping and repainting all the chrome-plated pieces, adding a mirror, adding an extra fuel tank, and adding a tonneau cover. I used Indycals decals and Tamiya French Blue paint. This kit was one of the easiest I've built and I recommend it highly. It is an older kit, but you wouldn't know by building it, it's light years ahead of other kits from that era. Thank you for looking.

Nicely done! I'm glad to hear that it's an easy kit, as I just got a set of Michael's decals for the William Grover-Williams 1929 1st Monaco GP winner. Need an easy build to clear my head.

I echo Jerry's sentiment. It's a good kit even by today's standards. IMO one of the best Monogram ever did.

I really like it, Jerry, and the historical updates make this one even better.

Killer build! I have an 80s RoG reissue of that kit to build myself, with a set of corrected resin outer rim spokes by Andy Martin. I forget if he sold those under his Modelmartin or Aardvark Models line, but they are nice. I just got in a good sized order from Indycals, & I'm gonna make another order in a week or so. Looks like I'll need to add a set of Bugatti decals to the order.

That is a great looking build Jerry! I have the kit and the Indycals decals to do that same car. Seeing how good your's turned out, makes me want to drop everything I'm working on and build this one.LOL... I'll get to it one day...

Hi, Great job! I love the car and the Monogram kit is still a good kit! A transkit/detail set was expected few years ago, but I don’t know if it was finally produced... I’ll ask the guy Anyway, beautiful build. Pascal

That is a great Monogram 1/24th scale kit. Can't believe it is almost 60 years old.

Picked up on this thread a couple of years on. The Monogram Bugatti 35B is a nice kit apart from the over heavily chromed parts.
The model made for this thread looks really nice.
Pascal mentioned a Transkit/Detail up set for this kit. Did that ever materialise?
