Actually more than I expected were there given the fiasco of last year and NASCAR and Goodyear's refusal to make good to the fans who were ripped off.

I watched the Hungarian GP today. From the helicopter shots you could see that the stands were pretty empty there also. Most of the people were sitting on the grass.

I live rather close to the track and park cars in my front yard for the events. Todays Brickyard crowd reminded my alot of the F1 crowds in the later years. The 500 and the Brickyard usually result in a full yard of cars (about 12/13), today I managed 5. Also the traffic is usually bumper-to-bumper by 9am. Today it never got that heavy. I also hear that they had tickets available at the ticket office on race day, first time I believe that's ever happened.

I saw parts of that farce. I am not a fan of Montoya but he got the shaft big time. Anyone who thinks NASCAR is not in bed with Hendrick is living in a dream world.

I logged onto the IMS site last week and could buy blocks of 4 in the Paddock Penthouse. To me, that is unheard of. I have always believed NASCAR was not suited to IMS and nothing has happened to ever change that. Ryan Newman, in a rare display of candor from a Sprint Cup driver, said the same thing on Sunday night. In addition, lots of seating areas were ruined when the wall was raised to accomodate them. No way there were 180,000 at the race.

Over the past few years at the '500' I've noticed many empty seats....but I began to realize the empty seats are really crappy seats to begin with. Any seats in the first 10 rows or so and all you see is drivers head go by. With today's ticket prices I'd want to see more than just helmet whiz by. Attendence numbers at Indy have always been somewhat mythical due to the fact they don't actually "turnstyle count" the occupants.

I wasn't over joyed with the outcome of the race either. It just seems as though NA$CAR threw the thing. I'm just curious as to how many others of the "good 'ol boy" club had pit speeding "issues". It did seem like a WWF skit. On the other hand, even though I'm not a big stock car fan, NA$CAR does help to pay some of the bills for the place.
