Its May and we are all missing the Indy 500 this year! I am spending the month working through my pile of kits focusing on 500 cars. I finally found a 82 kit on Ebay and had always planned to build them both kits at the same time if I could. Here are some pictures of the process that was very easy because of a beautiful kit by Calvin and amazing paint masks and decals from Michael. I'm adding a few bolt heads where they can be seen but other than that it is a pretty straightforward build. I have also finished a few of the other kits I had started and hope to take pictures and update those build reports as well. My goal is to have these completed by Friday so I can keep moving through the pile! Enjoy Chris

Great job so far, Chris. Not surprised to see you building a Mario car! Or two in this case lol
Great goal, too, I hope you make it and keep sharing the pictures with us along the way.

Thanks - Just completed the decals on both. Going to give it some time before the clear coat going on. While these are drying the rest of the kits parts will be painted and detailed and ready for final the final build. Chris

Interesting how different these two look. Great job so far, do you have a favorite?

Yeah the small changes in the paint scheme make a big difference. I like the '82 car with more orange. I'm finding its hard to find race day photos of Andretti because his day ended so early.
The '81 race they used silver duct tape to tape the engine cover seams so I'm adding decals for that detail.
Again, great kits and decals from both providers.

Here is more progress on some of the final stage parts. The Wing supports were cut out, drilled and painted. The wheels were cleaned, primed and painted chrome before the gold was painted. This was followed by a brown wash and after this dries the nut will be painted black and it will be dry-brushed with aluminum. It is going to rain through Saturday so everything will be completed and on hold for the final clearcoat on both bodies. I will not be hitting my Friday goal but it should all be done by Sunday so not bad.

this is just awesome! You are really flying right along so well with these.
I feel bad, I sell this kit and have yet to build them. Just test fitted them.

I know life gets in the way of model building but wondering how these are going.
In the meantime. Can anyone tell me what blue and orange these colours are?

Thanks everyone. Quattro I used Tamiya rattle can TS-53 Deep Metallic Blue and Finishers Mclaren Orange. I used a grey primer to make the orange deeper and less florescent as the test that I did with white was very bright.
It finally stopped raining today so I could get the final clear on both kits. I'm going to give that a day or 2 in the car to bake.
Thanks for watching!
