Ok, I got everyone totally confused due to MY confusion the first time around, so here goes........
I have the Revell Pioneer kit ('99), and I am going to build JPM's 1999 Reynard as run at the Indianapolis 500.
I also have the Visteon kit ('98) which has the proper wheels for this car, correct?.
I have to take the *shark fin* off the engine cover, and use the Speedway wings, correct?
Anything else? (any building tips specific to these kits, also any unusual component colors, etc., will be greatly appreciated, too!)
I know these questions sound really dumb to most of you guys, but this is my first build of a post 1970's Indy style car.
Thank you, Bill Little

Juan Montoya DID NOT race at Indy In 1999, he was a rookie in 2000 when he won the race driving a G/Force/Oldsmobile/Target This kit was done by Chris Etzel and re-released by Bill Jorgenson. The Revell kit of the Reynard are the cars that ran in the CART Races not the IRL and the Indy 500 in 1999 & 2000. Hope this helps you out.

I think a nice speedway version of the '99 car, regardless of the fact that it didn't run Indy would be nice to see.

Either way (I said I was originally confused) I will build Montoya's car. ;D Maybe you MISSED the bold, italic, underlined, sentence in my post?? I can build models, have been doing so for over 50 years, but I don't know jack about that time period of IRL/CART. I can give you probably more info about a 1963 Holman Moody Galaxie that you would ever want to know, however. Did any Reynards run in the Indy 500 in '98-'99 like the Revell kit? Do you happen to have a Jorgensen kit you want to part with?Mongo

The last Reynards to run at Indy were in 1996, after that the IRL went to the stockblock motors and the new Chassis G/Force's and Dallara's. the Reynards were run in the CART series. Montoya drove a Reynard 991 in 1999 CART series. team also using the Reynard 991 were Team Kool Green, Team Rahal, Patrick Racing, Player's/Forsythe Racing , Walker Racing, Pacwest Racing Group, Arciero-Wells Racing, McDonald's Racing and Bettenhausen Racing. If you can find a copy of the Cart 1999-2000 yearbook it has lots of photos and info on the cars teams and drivers. check with motorbooks they might have it on sale.or watch ebay

If i do decide to build very many of these (more than the three I have), I will definitely look for the Cart Year book. Bill Little

* use the Pioneer kit * the chrome the wheels from the Visteon kit * cut off the sharkfin * on step 2B, omit parts 8 & 9. There is a recess these parts fit into, this would have been open. Probably best not to drill this out but just put a little flat black paint in the recess. If you have some mesh, a nice piece to cover it would be more accurate. The mesh was most likely dome shaped but that's not real easy to replicate. * mirrors were c/f but that would be a bear to decal (maybe just paint black!? * blue setbelts
You can put whichever wings you like on the car. Here's what he ran for his wins Long Beach (1st win) road course Nazareth speedway Rio modified road course setup (will detail more if wanted by anyone) Cleveland road Mid-Ohio road Chicago speedway Vancouver road
If you want to replicate a specific race, I can also indicate which side of the car the fuel nozzle should be on ;D plus a few of the races ran in the rain if you like those tires more than the slicks.

Thanks so much, Jordan. I knew that if I ever got the right kit, you could get me straight!
Thanks to Greg (dukecador), too!
