I found this when looking to find a site on Geocities. It is a ChampCar kit of Scott Pruett from Ed Sexton who was (as I understand it) a driving force behind Monogram's IndyCar and ChampCar kits. Sadly, he has left Revell/Monogram but it is still interesting to see what might have been for the Reynard kits. This is a screen capture from a newsletter of a local modeling club - ENJOY! Jordan

Yes, Ed was the driving force behind a lot of the GREAT kits from Revell/Monogram and if you and any one else are interested, I could supply the engines (Toyota,Honda and Cosworth) but with the cost of molds and castings I would need more than just a hand full of orders to make this happen......

I'm certainly interested. What would you consider to be a reasonable number of orders? ...and... What would be the approximate cost (range) per engine?

With the costs involved for the molds I would estimate 30 engines must be sold per mold with an approximate cost of $10.00-$12.00 for each engine.

I'd build them with open engine covers alright. Plus, it could make covering the clamshell seam easier ;D BONUS!! Personally, the Honda would probably be #1 on my wish list then Ford #2 and Toyota #3. Any Mercedes engine Seems there weren't a lot back then in Reynards - Mark Blundell's '99 Motorola kit was a M-B car and Speedline did one M-B car, Blundell's teammate Mauricio Gugelmin. Then of course (duh) there were the Forsythe cars of Greg Moore and Patrick Carpentier which almost everyone did a set of decals. The rest of the Reynard/Mercedes cars never got decals that I saw..... Jordan

Not the numbers I was looking for....see this is why we never received any additional Champ Cars from R/M. We are a small (but dedicated) group but, unfortunately, not enough of us purchasing product to make thing profitable (or even cover costs) for the manufactures including the aftermarket. I WILL be producing the engines in the future now that this thread has started because it made me think of trying an alternate casting source for Scale Coachworks. Between finding a new decal artist AND a resin caster of the quality I required for my product line and was using for many years it has been very difficult for me but I will keep trying so that I can continue to produce a quality product for sale to the modeling public. In the mean time please stop by the web site (www.scalecoachworks.com) to have a look and as soon as the engines become available I will post them here first.

Dang! Well I am glad to hear that you will be producing these engines in the future. As for the R/M kits, I did my part. I imagine between Jordan and myself we account for at least 1/2 of all their sales.

www.scalecoachworks.comI have 60+ kits ;D so I think I did my part to support Revell's venture ;D I just wish I had been able to buy them direct in bulk and saved a ton of $$$ versus buying most of them on eBay. Right now, most are packed up right now for an impending move so I can't get at most of them for the time being. Mongo, looks like Dan will start out with the Honda and see how well it goes from there - kind of cool being able to interact with the guys that support the open wheel niche via this board!! Dan, if you need any help on these - don't hesitate to drop me an email or a message on the board. Jordan

I know I did my part buying the kits. I think I bough at least 60 of them myself. I have built them in at least 35 different ways. I have even converted them into 98 to 2002 Dallaras. Even though they are not perfect they look good on the shelf.
I have had the pleasure to speak with Ed Sexton several times at local model shows. I have even traded e-mails with him over the years. I would ask him everytime I saw him about if Revell would ever do the IRL cars. He said because it was a niche market and the Reynards did not really move they would not do any more. I remember him telling me about the prototype engines years ago. and how he wish they would have included them in the kits.
You could count me in on probably 10 of the engines. I did a full detailed reynard of the Buddy Lazier's winner using one of the Reynards. I built it right when to kits first came out and I was just getting back into building. (There are pictures posted under 96 wnner thread.)
I am currently building a new one with full detail now that my skills have gottten much better.I will be posting in progress photos this weekend. I have already removed the front shock cover and fabricated the insert. Hope come out as good as I hope it will.
