Hi Guys,
Thought I would throw together a WIP of a car I recently finished. I usually do these as I go along but this conversion was started nearly 8 months ago. Until recently I had been working 60 hours a week and getting modeling done was difficult. Now that the country is basically on shutdown and I am laid off, I suddenly had all the time in the world to finish and start new projects.
I built this car using a 1/18th Minichamps Lola. I pretty much hacked the Lola up but I will highlight some things I did.
The top of the side pods were shaved down to get rid of the humps present on the Lola. This caused an issue as once the humps were removed, so was all the metal. I had to then tape it off and used JB weld to fill it back in. The roll bar was modified and a new roll bar fashioned from sheet plastic. Massaged the shock tower area, made the nose more pointed, cut away the side flares and cut in new exhaust outlets. I cut the under tray into three sections, removing the rear half altogether and making a new one from sheet plastic. Added resin front wings and scratch built the rear wing from plastic. Ralph had given me Photoetch wheel covers years ago so I just gotten around to being able to use them. Paint used was Model Masters Blue Steak and pure white. Indycals decals were then added. Michael's decal sheet was originally made for Kevin's outstanding 1/25th scale kit but perfectly scaled up to 1/18th in every way. Proportionally I think my car is a little on the short side but being made from a Lola, I think it turned out pretty good. Not in perfect build order but close. I am probably forgetting a lot of other details so questions are welcome. Stu
