Something odd for these odd times.

First off, hope you are all well.

I am coming to the end of a weeks leave. Was supposed to go to Portugal to check on my folks but that went west.

Like so many of us, at home being sensible. Got some glue from a corner store so...

So I had time to go through my bitz boxes. Tidy up a bit.

Found a resin March 762 body cast by a mate from a 24/25th diecast toy.

Found a couple of spare slot car chassis and a bundle of other bitz.

Found some old decals.

Set myself a kinda scrap heap challenge. Nothing bought in. Just use what was to hand and save on the kits for later.

Decided to retro fit the body into a Patrick Tambay 1975 Formula 2 MARCH 752 and slap it on a slot chassis to run on my track.

If it wasn't for the Indycar stuff I think I would be focused on the mid 70s to early 80s F2, F3 and F Atlantic stuff.

Couple of bits ain't right but it was an exercise in restraint.

We are all so used to doing everything like a proper static kit but with this thing I had to hang everything on the body.

No lower wish bones at the front. No rear suspension assembly.

Scratch built the front assembly but could do with thicker paper clips and staples.

No where to mount the springs given the axle height and chassis config.

Some of the decals are quite old.

I may one day do a more accurate static version given the chance.

MRRC inline chassis with a 3/32 axle with a set of 'BRM Megane' rears that are meant for 3mm axle.

It might rattle a bit when running but they appear OK.

Will test it tomorrow morning.

Also working up to using a couple of spare Penske PC17 bodies left over from Hobbitime conversions

onto a couple of chassis to see if that works.

And got a Carrera Go chassis to fit under a Lola T530 43rd scale body.

These will have to wait.

I am back to duty tomorrow evening for the next seven days.

Back in lock down for two after finishing seven shifts. Back to another six tomorrow.

Seems odd. Can book on for duty but cannot do anything else when on rest days.

I know some of you are distracted by what is going on and worried for loved ones.

We all are, but for me this is the perfect distraction from my duties and responsibilities.

But even then this feels like model build lite. Bit of fun. Not the full on tight replicas we all like.

I am sure you all now that sense of not being fully focused.

Continuing with my scrapyard challenge projects. Appreciate this is not a slot car forum.

BUT just throwing this one in because I know many of you have idle kit bodies lying around after doing your transkit work.

If you are not doing any kinda garage or paddock diorama you can thrash round a layout or two.

Slapped road course spec wings on it. Bit more to do after painting to the front suspension.

So I can actually get to say it.

'Gentlemen. Start your engines'.

Seven early shifts done. Three days off locked down. Odd.

Anyway. Kinda done.

They run quite well on these chopped up cheapo chassis.

Run on my Carrera set which accommodates the scale well.

Happy to have been able to use the cast off bodies like this.

Thank heavens for Indycals duplicating and making available what comes with the kit.

Not that I will need any for now but these were old decals and not very happy to be used.

Went outside the scrapheap element of the builds and ordered some six spoke inserts from Silver City for the fronts.

The rears are 3mm bigger in circumference than the standard kit tires (used on the trans kits). Best match I could find.

BRM Slot Cars 1/24 Porsche 962 rubber. They do some tasty BBS wheels at that scale by the way.

The fronts are about right. BRM megane fronts. Good match and stay off the track to let the guide blade work properly.

Can go four lanes with what I have piled up over the years.

Might look at doing a March and a Lola from 88 to go with these.

But Only if I have all the Mario Andretti stuff from 87 to 89 done.

If I do I mite offer out the bitz left for anyone who can use them but won't be soon.

1980's IndyCar slot racers seem to be all the rage these days. There is a club nearby that are adapting the AMT and Monogram bodies to H&R chassis.

JK Products has some good looking 1/24 DW12 Ready to runs- but they are aimed more toward commercial-style racing. The latest offerings are Pagenaud and Power.
