Next up is Kevin’s 73 McLaren...and I must say, after the Gouel and XKE, it is a breath of fresh air...crisp parts, excellent instructions and well engineered...
Anybody got good pictures of suspension, engine, etc.? I saw Micheal’s picture which is one of the better ones...I tried a brief search with little luck...
Thanks in advance! Tim

Hi Tim
Thanks for the compliment on the McLaren kit and hope to see you at Indy in a couple of months under better circumstances. I do have some photos of the suspension on the McLaren. Whenever you are ready send me an email and I will send them out to you and I am sure they will help. Wish I had a chance to get to the IPMS show in Richmond and I know I say that every year but its going to happen sooner than later. Thanks Kevin silvercitymodels@comcast.net

Nice looking powerplant! I'm glad to hear of the fit quality of Kevin's kits as I have a few but have yet to build one. Retirement started a week ago today so I hope to have more time soon, just have to whittle down that honey-do list!

And moving right along... I had to use Michael’s “Oops” policy for the first time...messed up the big number and pinstripes... I believe the wing was called an ironing board... All in all a fun build...Follow the Instructions! Do NOT think you’re smarter than Kevin! Comments questions welcome! Thanks for stopping by! Tim

Great progress, Tim. The paint job looks smooth plus the details in the cockpit and engine look great.

Very nice job so far. Paint looks great!
The engine and rear suspension on all of these cars of this era are a puzzle! I ended up having to draw a picture with the parts for me to remember how they all go together. It also took me some time to understand I may not need them all depending on the car/year I was building.
Cant wait to see it with the decals!

That's looking great so far. I oops'd a decal recently and Michael's response was excellent.

Right in the middle of running a business and mastering new cars, Kevin “The Man” Kuzman, sent me a new windscreen to finish this project...I can’t say “Thank you!” enough...used yellow marker (Calvin) and patience (Juanjo)... I smudged the screen a little because of using a fine point yellow marker...Calvin must use the highlighter with the wide tip... I love the huge wing... This is a great kit but requires patience...I have Kevin’s Jerry Karl/ Smokey Yunick Eagle that I wil attempt soon...I learned a lot and believe it will be easier knowing what I know now... Thanks again Kevin! Customer Service is NOT dead! Tim

Its awesome, Tim!
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend a yellow sharpie anymore, because it has the tendency to react to certain types of glue and will turn the yellow ink, RED! I like to use CA glue when applying my windscreen (which is kinda crazy) but CA glue will turn yellow ink into red if it comes in contact. Overall it's best to airbrush clear yellow acrylic on windscreens.

Super looking Mclaren Tim. I usually have no interest in the winged cars, sort of end my intrerest about 1970-71. I do have one of Lance's 1972 Donahue Mclarens. Seeing your fine buiild of the 73 makes me want to take another look at my kit. I seem to lack motivation on model building. Last thing I worked on was the GT-40 Roadster and just stopped before painting. I have been working on my 1:1 Jeep Wrangler. I have added a few things I have been wanting and I had to change the thermostat which was uneventful and got rid of my check engine light. Beiing retired for me has not added to my productivity. I do "plan" a lot though

Bill: Man you hit the nail on the head! I’m retired, but sometimes model building doesn’t turn me on like it used to...I believe that it is partly frustration with poorer eyesight, poorer hand/ eye coordination and the complications that come with new/ resin/ 3D printed kits. They just AIN’T like the old styrene kits! They require clean up, sanding, and unique techniques to make them look good...even the new styrene kits, like Alonso’s LeMans Toyota, seem much more challenging than before... However, I am just working on fighting through and I’m trying to get over making them perfect...this kit ((a fabulous one from Kevin!) drove me crazy at times, but I just kept on going...it has become clear to me that we are all over critical of our finished builds...I see something posted on here and it looks unbelievable, but the builder is complaining about “all the mistakes.” I think we all need to lighten up on ourselves... I too have the Jorgensen 72...I have wanted to build it for years...how about a double build where we can compare notes?...not a competition but rather an info sharing showcase? I am convinced that the 72 Donahue McLaren is one of, if not the most beautiful 500 winners of all time... Thanks for the kind words! Timm

Tim, another resin kit built with great results. I think you matched the colors. What are they?

Timm Bill and Tim, you guys have depressed me; LOL; I was thinking that if now I can build 4-5 models per year, when I retire will be able to multiply my production by 8, and thus, finish my stock before 75 years old.

Tim, I do believe you are correct about being overly critical of ourselves. I would take you up on the 72 builds but I have way too many projects already started and do not want to further abandon them.
Juanjo, you have enough talent to make as many kits as you desire. Considering you make many beautiful cars from scratch. I am doing good to assemble a regular styrene kit and more challenged to get to the resin projects. Seems like there are more things to do in life and time gets away easily.
I guess I really need to get some production going soon, I am 13+ months from 75, wow!

Tim, this is a beauty! This looks real; if I didn’t know better, I’d expect Lone Star J.R. to jump in and start hot-lapping.
Kevin does great kits, combine it with the skills of a master and you get a masterpiece like this!

Juanjo: Rattle can Tamiya TS-56 Brilliant Orange and TS-15 Blue... I have always been a rattle can guy, but recently purchased a new Paasche air brush because an upcoming project needed colors I couldn’t find in cans. Gravity Spain was super! 3 days by DHL and the paint is fantastic! I will be unveiling this car soon... Thanks for the kind words! Tim
