Gentlemen: I was gonna do this as a quick, easy kit...hahahaha....it’s a Heller, so in Patrick’s famous words: “fiddly.” Under the hood... Interior... More to come...including the story of the race....comments, questions welcome... Tim

The Jaguar XKE is one of the most iconic sports cars of all time...Enzo Ferrari famously said: “The most beautiful car ever made.” It was designed as a DType variant: rack and pinion steering, disc brakes, and fully independent suspension front and back...it is oddly similar to 60’s NASCAR stock cars in that it has a front space frame(called unitary construction), but just the body in the rear...it claimed a top end of 150mph and sub 7 second 0-60mph....that, coupled with a reasonable price for a high performance car, made it very popular... Drawbacks? It had body panels that were hard to fit. If it needed parts, there would be a looooong wait.Mechanics claimed it was hard to set up... Whatever! In 1960, Briggs Cunningham decided to team up with Jaguar and Dan Gurney at LeMans. The brand had won at LeMans 5 times in the 50’s. In 1962, he teamed with Roy Salvadori (who had won with Carrol Shelby in 1959) in an almost stock E Type. He added a rock screen on the hood, atoll bar, and a large gas tank in the trunk. As the final hour approached, the Jag passed 2 cars to go into 4th...and it would finish there behind 3 Ferrari’s, including 2 GTO’s in second and third... It has some very interesting lines Beside Penske’s 250 GTO...2 beautiful cars! The hood straps, hood latches, and windshield wipers are scratch built...I need to work on my panel lines... Craig and I shared Jag stories about how cool it was, but a nightmare on upkeep...we even had a Jag dealership in Beaumont and Burd and I used to go there and drool on the XKE’s...it didn’t last long here in Truck Country....feel free to tel your own story... The kit had the driver and steering wheel on the wrong side! Could not get the hood to come anywhere close without gluing it down. Adding the roll bar to a cramped interior was a PITA.But it ended much better than I thought it would...comments, questions welcome! Thanks for stopping by! Tim

Funny to see the gas cap on the roof. I guess the thing was so low slung that it was easier there for the crew and allowed an easy way to dump large quantities into the tank at a time!?
Looks great buttoned up. I really like it! Glad you finally own an XKE.

As cool as the XKE is, the GTO almost makes you drool. Tim, your details on the Jag are well done as always. Your interior is life like and the car is beautiful. That GTO just screams speed. I've ALWAYS been in love with it's lines. Another well done project! Thanks for posting!

Jordan: Concerning the gas cap...I believe that part of the reason was the pits at LeMans are on the right...the stock gas tank lid is on the left...also widening it would allow faster refueling into the large gas tank...Heller supplied NO gas cap so I had to source my own...the rules at that time must have been fuzzy...they took off the bumpers, added a huge gas tank, and a primitive roll bar...Other than that, it is basically stock..a 4th place at LeMans in a fairly stock car...are you kidding me?... Tim Thanks for the kind words!

Tim, I think it was Henry Manney called the XKE “the greatest crumpet collector known to man”. Briggs a hero of mine, I didn’t know Gurney drove it- that boy got around. Beautiful build- thanks for sharing. Dan
