YES!!!!!!! Chris Etzel is alive and well!!!!
I have made no secret that Chris Etzel was and is a good friend of mine. I have always been proud to call Chris a friend, even though we haven't spoken to each other a great deal over the past few years. Many have asked and contacted me why Chris stopped producing the best resin Indy Car kits that have been produced for that time, (Lance is the best now)....Well I finally was able to reach him yesterday for a long conversation to get caught up with each other....Here's a few answers to your questions.
Chris stopped due to lack of orders, interest and he was getting burnt out. He worked really hard on his kits and the quality showed in his work. But that kind of dedication and diligence to his work takes it's toll. How many have spent so much time on a project to get finished, and walk away from building for a while? All of us! Well.....try making kits that others build? Chris got burnt out and got tired of hearing, "What are you going to do next?" instead of, "WOW!!! Looks great!"
Chris also has change interests and has a lady in his life for the past 5 years. Chris is happy, which we all wish for him! He is happy and satisfied that his kits are really sought after, but has no plans to get back into the business. He doesn't even built models anymore and spends most of time working and playing with his band, which plays gigs around Indianapolis.
The main thing is my best friend is happy, healthy and busy. I couldn't wish more for him as a friend. I think you all wish that too. I wish I had more of his Watson Roadster kits, but, someone else will have to take that one up. So there it is. Most of the conversation was getting caught up. Isn't amazing that you can not talk to a good friend for a long time, and pick up a conversation the next time you speack to each other like you just spoke yesterday? When I finally get to go back to Indianapolis to update the display...We'll see each other over a beer and laughs. Just thought I'd let you all know.....
Chris Etzel is alive and happy!!! I wish him the best!
Like I do all of you
