We are reviving the Off Season Build-O-Rama this year during the IndyCar break between 2015 and 2016 seasons. Same thing as in previous years where it is any scale and any media, it is just to get you building something open wheeled during the downtime these winter months (for us northern hemisphere folks).
Given the recent passing of Justin Wilson and a desire of a lot of guys here to build something in his honor, the theme of "Gone Too Soon" was picked. This allows a wider option of builds: drivers, years, series, etc.
You do not have to pick a build using the "Gone Too Soon" theme, we just want to encourage everyone to get to the bench some and build more! Shoot for having the build done by the green flag for the 2016 IndyCar season (tentatively 3/13 in St. Pete).
Happy building, Jordan

I've got a few in the planning stages too, I'll finally do Jim Clark's winning Lotus 38 as well as three 1957 Fords of Fireball Roberts, Curtis Turner and Jerry Unser. All four gone far too soon but never forgotten.

Sounds good, Jerry, but the rules are "open wheel".

I saw that and totally spaced Craig, LOL. It was a long day at work getting ready for release day tomorrow and I guess I used all my attention span there!

I just counted them up. I've either started or have in the planning stages 11 different Jim Clark cars......I think that I need to finish one of them! By the way, I do have a 12th (the 1/12th scale Tamiya Lotus 49), but since I have a 1/20th scale Ebbro kit, I don't need to keep the big kit. Paul Erlendson

I think I shall try to build Scott Brayton's 1996 pole winner! Lots of reference photos, thankfully.

Well I have a 1/20 Ebbro Lotus 49. It's probably been done loads of times, but it's awful pretty. It will be finished as Jim Clark's British GP entry. to go with the new 1/20 Jim Clark figure

Can't have too many Jim Clark builds, IMO. Jordan, Stu, this needs it's own thread.

Well, here's a question. Maybe it's a bit insensitive, or even downright grizzly, but within the theme of "Gone Too Soon", need the driver have passed on in a racing accident? or can he just have died off track at an early age? Sorry for the 'bummer' nature of the question. Sometimes I wonder what's inside this skull...

Sorry for the 'bummer' nature of the question. Sometimes I wonder what's inside this skull... This years Build-O-Rama theme was inspired by the tragic loss of Justin Wilson, so the thought was, and please correct me if I'm wrong, drivers lost in racing accidents. No matter what age our heroes achieve, they will always be gone too soon.

The point of the BoR is to get you to build. The theme is a suggestion to inspire a possible build subject, not a hard and fast requirement for participation. You can build anything you want from any driver living or dead whether they died naturally, on track, or away from the track. We just want to encourage the members (and guests) to build something open wheel this off-season. If you personally attach a gone too soon sentiment to your build of a driver lost away from the track, that is fine.
