Hi guys. It's been ages without posting, but I've been very much away from modeling and haven't posted much at other forums anyway  Nice to be back, I see you did not stay stationary. That's good Well, I've though of using some stuff I have to put together a 1/12th Indycar. Nothing much detailed, very closed. The possibilities I've thought are: 1-1990 Lola
2-1991 Lola
3-1993 Lola
4- 1994 Penske
5- 1992 Galmer.
6- 1989 Lola
7- 1986 March
8- 1994 Reynard 9- 1995 Reynard YES, YES!!! the '95 one
10- 1993 Penskesee poll Then if I make up my mind I might cats a short series for OW forum friends. Obviously the Lolas and the Penske have more versioning game available. Which one you think would be more interesting? I also posted this poll at f1m morum, some of you know. I set the poll so you can vote two cars so you don't have to struggle with hesitation! If it was me the 1995(assuming you meant 95) Reynard would be the most popular and biggest money maker.

I agree that the 95 Reynard and even the early 90s Lola would be the best money makers. I feel that models in 1/12 and larger scale are meant to be displayed as a centerpiece to one's collection and should be of significance in the history of motorsports. This would usually include winning cars of a season champion or highly significant race. Therefore, my #1 vote is for the 94 Penske of Al Unser Jr. This was a car that was built for one purpose, in secret, with the name of the motor going to the highest bidder. However, building a model of the 95 Reynard as the fastest car to ever qualify for the Indy 500 seams cool too.

I voted for the 86 March being a Rahal fan. Also because you can do 2 500 winners with it.

For me the '92-95 winners are what I would love to see. Guess, I'd be up for an 86 March, too... I only want a '91 Lola if there can be a '91 Penske to go around it on the high side  Jordan |

Tried to edit the poll to say 1995 Reynard but I can't see a way to do that!? I did make it an announcement and I'll leave it up for a while. When voting, please comment so the thread stays in recent posts/threads to get it some visibility.

Thanks for the interest, folks! YES; YES: I was thinking of the '95 Reynard. Good you asumed that for voting. I see BTW that then the '94 one seems to be less interesting. I might also consider later Reynards, such as the ones made by Revell at 1/25. I agree with schix5150 regarding the "centerpiece" side of it. Nevertheless, the fact of it being a "versionable" car is not focused necessarily to a given person getting more than one (well why not!) but to open up the focus is satisfying more people's views of what a centerpiece should be. Thanks guys, keep the answers coming and let's see what emerges from this. Once again I'll point that it would not be an ultra detailed thing but something on the line of early S27 kits... but bigger! regards to all J |

I am not a scale snob. I enjoy builds in all scales, but anything larger than 1/25 is too big for me to display, and 1/43 and smaller is too small for my old eyes. So while I would enjoy seeing any of them, I would not buy them, so it would not be fair for me to vote.

Quite amazing the absolute lack of interest on ANY of the Lolas!!! any reason? IMO the Tamiya T9300 is the best Indy car kit produced (at least in plastic). I think any attempt to do it in another scale is somewhat futile. The 90 car would be cool. But the 95 Reynard can do two 500 winners and numerous other cars. Yeah, the same could also be said for the 86 March which would probably be my second choice. |

I am looking more at not only how many different cars can be done but who drove them. That's why I like the 93 Lola but I am bias because i want to do a large scale Mario! LOL Maybe even a last lap Foyt. 1993 is probably my favorite 500 ever.
In the whole scope of things, any 1/12th scale Indycar would be great. I would buy one for sure no matter what.

Pretty good points, Mike and Stu. Thanks. Yep, improving (trying to) the '93 Lola is futile. On the other hands, many guys who have mostly 1/25 Indycars have the Tamiya '93 Lola already as an "scale exception" so yes the slot is filled. Maybe I should try also with some missing ones, such as the Penske '88. What you think? On the other hand, for me it's a different point: I already have three good reasons to start cutting plastic for a particular car: It has easy shapes, I have pretty good info and I like it. I am talking about the '92 Galmer. What stops me? not many people seems interested! I might also start with this one to practice... |

Thanks for keepin it up, guys Yeah, I see "subtle" campaign to favour the MArch 86! hahaha! Well, as one of those all conquering cars on its day it certainly has good possibilities. About the TAmiya Lola, well... a different scale model is never a good starting point, to be honest I'd rather start from scratch. Thanks for the oidea anyway. Back to the 86C, you only have to look at Indycals available stuff to track 7 interesting versions. I can think of two or three more. So, a strong contender. Well the thing seems to bias towards '93 Penske, 95 Reynard and '86/7 March. On the other hand, it's quite interesting that if you put together '93 and '94 Penske votes, it gets a strong advantage. Is there any shortcut to make a '93 from a '94? I mean, I understand that changes were mainly a lower chassis for 94. Can we talk of modeler just adding a bit putty there, or a separate part from cockpit backwards or is it a major, everywhere change? Thanks for the input, fellas! J |

Bill Jorgensen, who did both in 1/25, a few years back said he lost one of the masters and said he could recreate that car from the other. Not sure if this book would be any help but I think they might be worth looking into: Inspired to Design: F1 cars, Indycars & racing tyres: the autobiography of Nigel BennettActually, now that I think about it - Tony Matthews would be an excellent resource on any of these projects. Thanks again for the input, guys. Yes that PC23 thread is ABSOLUTELY awesome!!! Thanks for the sugestions. I think I have a good deal of info, but further details won't harm. The PC23 is quite a complicated thing specially on the tub area. Just to say I did start a 1/25 PC23 long ago, and I made quite nice floorpan and sidepods. But then got really stalled whe it was time to make the central part. Well tyhe MArch seems to come back with force, no doubt... |

I'm a little biased being an Ohio boy and growing up in a town very near where Bobby Rahal was born. I voted for the 86 March due to the fact Rahal won that year, the story with Jim Trueman being gravely ill makes the win doubly interesting. This car also carries the historical significance of being Big Al's 4th winning car, Rick's pole car, and the only car to win the pole one year and the race the following year. I'll end my campaigning now.
