I'm about to get everything together to do the Southeastern Finecast BRM 57 and have a question as to the color of the car.
It appears the car was a bit darker than Tamiya British Racing Green. What would be a good match for this color? Was it metallic?
Thank you again for your help, I have this and a metal Ferrari 156 I'd like to build and I want to get some practice in dealing with a metal kit before I tackle the 156 and some of the alterations I plan to make for it.

What a very cool car. I saw one many years ago at the LBGP (as I recall, Gurney was driving and won the historic race) and it seemed to me to have a slight blue tint. Very different from BRG, I would say. A bit lighter. I bet Michael P. would have an opinion on this. MJ

I don't know which specific car you are talking about, but the BRM cars I've seen do seem to have a blue tint as Mark noted. I digress with Mark however in that I think the color is quite dark

The BRM P57 was used in 1962, it was also known as the "Stackpipe" for its distinctive exhaust arrangement.
I don't have any photos of the car that I've taken and I don't know if I should hotlink to any other sites.

dark metallic shade of grey-green? Here is some feedback on your question. Take your pick! -- Tamiya mix for BRM is ; 8 parts X-5 + 6 X-3 +5 X-11 + 3 X-1. >>>>>>this looks fairly good --The colour is a Maserati colour - code 224643 and its name is (believe it or not) RIFLE GREY>>>>> way too grey -- BRM's semi-metallic 'Dark Lust. Green'. The 'Lust.' incidentally was short for 'Lustrous' but was rendered this way on the labelling and invoicing, as sprayed in his spare time by the Bourne undertaker>>>>>from D Nye author of THE book on BRM -- Another source of info is colour charts of BS 4800 and RAL numbers - Cavern is 12 B 29 (JWB 25) on the BS chart, and it looks the same as RAL 6015, >>>>but this appears too grey! -- www.zero-paints.com/photo-gallery/index.php/Product-Photos/ZP-1200-BRM-Racing-Green-60ml-Orange-30mlA>>>>>seems to be correct! but hard to get from Europe. I have some other info stashed away somewhere, but not sure where! Cheers

For my P57 I used an automotive lacquer...Dark Jade. A light over spray of transparent blue might have been a bit better, however. It would dull the metallic glint. BRM color is notorious! Pick your poison and stick to it for a P261. Jade Green Duplo with no over spray... the same on a Cox BRM... this time an Eldon BRM with metallic Testors green and a transparent blue over spray behind the Cox... see how the Eldon body has a bluish tinge? It shows better on this P159...green metallic w/over spray trans-blue... Crazy, yes, but IT'S A BRM! Patrick

What a beautiful lineup of cool racers. The stackpipe is a personal favorite.
