This will be less of a build thread and more of a general progress shots So received this today having waited quite a few weeks 2yrs ago in Japan DeAgostini [those of worldwide partworks fame] unveiled their latest series; a 1/8 scale McLaren MP4-4 driven by Senna to 8 victories in the 1988 series [this was while their MP4/23 Hamilton 2008 world champion 1/8 partworks series was still going] with Kyosho providing the actual model itself. Now back then I thought to myself I just have to have one of those but of course not being japanese and multiple other factors stopped me. WELL! the series has finished and I was able to secure for a good price a complete set including the 2 gifts of the Senna DVD [japanese copy to go w/ my Australian one lol!] and the Senna figure for the car In addition to the set there were a few other bits and bobs to buy including these To add just a tiny bit of class to the final product!! So as one does I got started tonight but even w/ a few hrs work there is plenty left to do - 5issues down and 65 still to go!!! Be kind guys - my completed to a standard of above 1% build no totals 0 lol!!! But here's hoping I can do this kit justice; especially the price I paid

WOW! This is going to be very fun to watch! Some of the people on this forum will have no idea this type of kit exists! As they put down their Monogram Kurtis Kraft model they will look at this and say its a UFO!

The sheer size of this one is impressive and I am glad to see that you will be sharing the process with us. Are you modeling this build after a specific race?

I have two 1/8 Pocher Testarossas. They take up a lot of space. I'm interested to see how this turns out. I've had my eye on the MP4/23 but not in the budget at the moment.

Latest updates as it has been a few days: Suspension pieces and electronics Front nose Front nose-cone [decaled and painted this one - happy enough w/ the final finish; definitely looks more akin to the real car than the plastic black out of the box] R front wheel hub R radiator housing & radiator Engine block Chasis L rear wheel L radiator housing & radiator

Anyone see them selling this during the F1 race on CNBC this weekend? I'm pretty sure it was the same kit...

HI all;
Sorry been a while since I was on due to work work work [oh yeh and getting married lol]
Still love this car to death. Museum collection decals. I used automotive paints for the undersell compared w/ multiple photos to work out the right colour. Then carbon fibre decals over the top. The front nose is maybe a bit too silvery but overall they look pretty good [and once they are under the main shell it looks gr8]
And thanks guys - definitely the first kit i've actually finished and given the price i'm glad it turned out display worthy

Display worthy, indeed! I hope you're talking "museum display worthy", because it is! Congratulations on the marriage! Hope she's a model-builder fan. Remember the line "well, I could be in the shop working on a model, or I could be out drinking!" will only work so many times. Also, remember: there are hundreds of models, but only one wife.
