This is another project that finally came to light recently. I started this car over 15 years ago and put it away. I pulled it out the other day and noticed how close I was to finishing it. So, here is a Mark 43 Lotus BRM of Jim Clark in which he won the USGP in 1966 . Patrick

Nice project Patrick, very god. Only one thing: The Lotus 43 BRM chassis is very similar to the Lotus 49, if you have some Heller / Union Lotus 49 , use the chassis to mesurements. That part between engine and cockpit is a little big . You really let us amazed with your scratchnuilding. Cheers. Alex. PS: I don't forgot that i'm in debit with you.

15 years ago I thought this project was very correct. Now...I know the errors in this project. Very many of them. However, this is more about "completion" than any thing else. I re-counted how many years it has been and it's more like 24 years! Time to complete this model!!! Thanks for your comments. Patrick

So let me get this straight, that's a Boxer-16 in that thing? I can only imagine the amount of force wanting to rip that chunk of steal apart and the driver only a few inches away. That model looks great. Nic

Not a bad hunk of aluminum but a heavy one! Only the likes of Jim Clark could make it go fast!

As I recall, that engine was more or less two flat eights on top of each other. Craig

The Fram decal really sets it off. Did the real car have seat belts?

Il Gran Ferrarista: Man, I like to see your work! The little details make this a winner!
By the way, wasn't this called an "H 16? I remember reading about this at the time and it was planned to be a world beater, but lack of development and its' weight did it in. I vaguely remember several teams besides Lotus planned to use it at the start of the new 3 liter formula. Jack Brabham used the steady Repco and beat'em all...
Keep up the interesting builds! Tim

Rats! The seat belts don't belong! That got by me, thanks. Yes, the H16 was a very complicated BRM project that never came into it's own. The BRM team's results were so-so.
The windscreen treatment was simply Tamiya X24 clear yellow painted on with a large brush to allow uniform coverage...I still gotta work on that!
Thank you all for the complements and especially the seat belt comment!

Well, I have patiently waited for new windscreens for this Lotus 43. I discovered them in a separate box, I tinted them yellow with Tamiya clear yellow and attached them with Testors "clear parts cement". Finally, after nearly 2 years sitting in the box, unfinished, this car is done. Patrick

Nice model of the Lotus 43 Patrick! Would have liked to have a seen a wip. Missing some pictures here on this thread. It's so old I guess. Would like to know what you used for the engine especially. I believe MFH is making a 1-20 of the same car.

Did they consider running the BRM at Indy in 1966? I seem to recall something about that but can't put my finger on it. Jim

They did intend to run the H16 in the Lotus 42 but the engine was unreliable and overweight. Beautiful build as always Patrick.

Wow, I'll bet there are not too many 1/24 Lotus 43's in collections around the globe! Very nice work as usual, and inspiring too. Cheers, Steve.

The nose should be a bit longer. I'll look if I have any photos on the engine build. And yes, the car was destined for Indy but didn't make it. It eventually was turned into a F5000 car driven by Bill Brack( one of Trevor's countrymen). It is a great project in its own right.

I really don't remember what I did for the engine other than I used heads (4 of them) from the spares box and glued them to a sheet plastic block. I used 4 views to size it up... I think I used water pumps from the famous spares box, too... I am most proud of the clutch system which is based on a Mini-Cooper clutch cover (I used the BMC engine on a Cooper F3 car!) here's the stock interior... not accurate in many ways but it gets the essence of the car across and sometimes that's good enough for me. Howdy Patrick, I saw you and your Lotus with the BRM H16 at the NNL last weekend or tow. I didn't realize who you were or I would have introduced myself and chatted you up more. This Lotus came out really nice especially the rear end. Of course I have come to expect no less from the F1 master. I had the 4 Speed record cars and 1/8 scale Ardun engines. Hope to see you again next year. Thanks for your tips and insights, keep up the great work. John

John, Dont feel bad Patrick and I have been the very best of friends for many years, sharing projects, supporting each other in tuff times, sending stuff to each other, talking out problems and have been in the same room a few of times but have never met face to face! 3 times at the NNL West! Finally this year at the SO Cal NNL on May 6, we will meet! Well unless something happens.....Come on out to the show and we can all meet!! Chris

NO! Not this time! Even if I have to sell my favorite 250 GTO/LMB kit, I will be coming down for this meet. What with F1 being one of the featured types!!! I'm bringing all my F1s! Well, maybe not all of them . Patrick
