First of all, I want to say thank you for all the help and donor kits that were given to me over the past week for these conversion kits for the Tamiya 956 and 962. So with tha said, I promised to do a full detailed WIP of what Im doing with these kits and the process that goes into developing a conversion kit. To make things less confusing I'm going to make separate WIP's for the 956 short tail conversion and the 962 long tail conversion. I decided to start with the 956 conversion, first so I don't confuse myself with everything going on. LOL I started off by simply cutting off the tail on the Tamiya 962 kit and amazing enough! It fits GREAT! I did have to add some thin styrene to the side edge to clean up my sawing gap. I also added some styrene tabs on the inside of the engine cover just like the 956 long tail engine cover. Next, I sized up some ground effect extensions and rear skirt extensions. Then I sawed off the rear wing to make it easier for the builder and resining casting on my end of things.

I will have this short tail conversion kit available in about a week. It will come with the short tail resin engine cover that will be detachable, which I worked very hard to get the fit nice and snug. Also comes with resin ground effect skirts and optional resin tires and wheels....

Nice job Calvin! Hope we have some Rothmans decals for this one too! PAul Erlendson Oh I'm sure! Also, casting this engine cover is VERY complicated. I have to do a lot of tricks to pull it off. I'd like to see how other resin casters would approach this thin part.

I got the first coat of primer on the new 956 Short Tail conversion for the Tamiya kit and it looks good. I'm very happy with it. It will require some slight adjustments as this is going to be a removable engine cover. But totally within tolerance. Adding the primer helps show where any problem areas are and as you can see it's very minimal.

The Tamiya Porsche 956 short tail conversion is coming along, the first coat of white is applied and got it masked for the 2nd and 3rd colors. I'll be depicting this one after the Team Joest New Man scheme that Ayrton Senna drove in the 1984 Nurburgring 1000K I hope to have the resin conversion kit available early next week. If you haven't built a Tamiya 956 kit, they are great kits and are pretty easy to find on eBay at reasonable prices (actually prices are all over the board, but deals are easy to find). With the short tail option and more decals to come the options are nearly limitless. And it was a short tail 956 that held the Nuburgring track record until just a few years ago.
On a historical note, Porsche was VERY interested in Senna after this run and the factory team wanted to hire him. He could have easily had some Le Mans wins in addition to his world championships but his manager told Porsche - he's not interested, not even for a million dollars (keep in mind he was still driving for Toleman at the time).
