Michael and Spyder are pretty smart guys, I'll cast my lot with them.

I prefer 1/25 for Indy and 1/24 for sports cars. I’m disappointed that the C_R series from Revell are 1/25 but happy the Ford gt lm will be 1/24. All my Can Ams are 1/24. I would love a Caddy Le Monstre, a Lancia D 24 Spyder Targa Florio, an accurate 1965 Ferrari P2 Targa Florio, an IMSA Spice-Fiero GTU, a 1963 Cooper King Cobra, to name a few.

There’s a detailed Le Monstre article in MRRN no. 5.

Historic Racing Miniatures(HRM) aka Harold Bradford already makes a top notch conversion kit for the Lemans Cobra.

What about a 962 conversion to do the 94 Le Mans winner? Like this?

Current state of my M8A conversion, rear deck and front of tub modified. This fits the Accurate Miniatures kit.

PBH: Outstanding! Is this a LMM or Profil? Are did you just scratch build it? Very nice and very unusual! Tim

I like the idea of the long-tail 962 conversion. Or maybe a 917 longtail? I think Heller/Union makes a kit, but it's an oldie. The Union 917 Long-tail/Shor-ttail kit is actually 1/20th scale! Great kit I have a couple but needs a lot of detail work. Chris

Now and then there's been a company out of England offering 2nd Gen Can-am Lolas. They also offer early 60's Lola coupes. Models can be used for slot cars or as curbsides. Would like to see a good conversion for the Ford GT roadsters, (there have been a variety of those over the years).

Re reading and thinking about the original message, I think you’re not as interested in creating new full kits, rather you would like to enhance an already existing kit. If I have that right, Ford Gt parts to build variations on the Fujimi kit sound like a neat idea to me. The 64 and 65 team cars were very cool with that iconic paint scheme. Also perhaps something along the lines of a body and proper wheels for a Trans Am racer. Donohoe, Jones, Gurney etc. etc. Thanks for asking, Dan

Im mostly looking for small conversion ideas for plastic kits, but I'm open to hearing about anything...

I like the idea of the long-tail 962 conversion. Especially if you can replicate the correct wedge shape nose that went with the tail of the 962 longtail.

I loved Can-Am, but I loved Trans-Am too. Considering how many times I've seen amazing conversions of various Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, Barracudas on model magazine covers, I'm guessing it's a market ripe for exploiting. When should I send my money? :-) MJ

Not exactly what you're asking for but you've moistened up my "dream cells" One of the most significant sports racers of the '60s was the Cooper King Cobra. I believe the chassis form the old Monogram Scarab could be used under a resin body. The list of drivers is a roster of sports racing all-stars and the success lead to the genesis of the Can-Am

Hi Daryl, the King Cobra is like a Holy Grail of '60's sports racers. You might want to start watching Harold Bradford's Historic Racing Miniatures down the road a bit... I'm just saying...

How about some race car-specific parts to convert an AMT '67 Camaro to a Trans Am car? Perhaps Michael could make some Penske Sunoco decals to go with it? You could include a stripped-out interior tub, seat, wheels with slicks, etc, although I guess a roll cage might be a little hard to produce in resin. A similar race conversion for a '69 Boss 302 Mustang would be cool ,too. I'll also suggest a transkit to convert the Monogram Lotus Esprit to an X180R, mainly because I'm too lazy to do the conversion and decals myself. Thanks! Ben

The LeMans Cobra conversion is already a resin product made by Historic Racing Miniatures as Sandy pointed out. It is for the AMT 289 Cobra kit.
I really like Paul's idea of conversions kits for the Fujimi Ford GT40 MKI kits to replicate the first Ford GT40 of 1964 and the more successful Shelby American managed GT40's of 1965. Mostly a new nose and some scoop changes, along with wire wheels for the 64 version.
Another nice idea would be a conversion for the Ford GT40 MKII to add the 427 engine in both single 4 barrel and dual 4 barrel versions.
Any Chaparral Can-Am, any Lola, McLaren or just any Can-Am kits. I have to admit that model building wise, I am more interested in things from the 60's and 70's and the more wings on it, the less I am interested. I know they work wonders but they're ugly!

There's a bunch of cars I would like to have - either as kits or conversions. Some have been done before but are long gone in terms of availability. CanAm's or GTP in 24th scale for sure Conversions: Bugatti EB110 SS (R/M or Airfix) - raced at LeMans and IMSA McLaren M8A/M8D/M8F (AccuMin) Audi 90 Quattro (Tamiya) - IMSA Porsche 924 GTP (Monogram 924, Hase 944) - LeMans and IMSA Ferrari 330P3/ P4 Spyder (Fujimi) Ferrari 250LM longnose (Academy)
x2 for the Ford GT40 MkII driveline - lots of these Fujimi kits around Mercury Capri (Revell) - IMSA GTO/ TransAm - other 80's cars on the same Revell chassis - Dodge Daytona, Olds Cutlass full kits for consideration: Lola T70 MkIII coupe March GTP 83G/84G/85G Cadillac CTS-V Cadillac DPi

I laid these out different views together in a 3D drawing program. I scaled the side view to the wheelbase size (122") then lined up the top view with the tire crosses from the side view. Then I did the same to add the front and back views so I got a good box to line up the car. My impression is these drawings are good but not great. The different views do not match up perfectly. There appear to be a few layout errors. Overall the drawing seems a bit too tall when looking at it from the side and too narrow when looking straight on with the front/back of the car. Anyone else see it or is it just me? Jordan

Chaps.
Sorry. Going back a bit.
PORSCHE 962s.
You aficionados probably know this already, but someone mentioned Porsche 962 and 956 and long and short tails. Mulsanne Corner do a selection of those I think. In the Shapeways store. Just have a quick look so there is no duplication of effort here.
I was hunting around to see if I could find any of those intake humps from the 85 and 86 IMSA Porsches. Not the big wide scoop already on offer but the funny little thing like on the Daytona 85 winner. Think some outfit called Speedline did em once along with a full transkit but I can't see any for sale out there..... Not as genned up on these as many of you chaps, but Wouldn't mind seeing that piece on offer somewhere again but guess the decals would need to be available too. Swap Shop, Columbia crest etc....

Or, a short tail 956 conversion with Rothmans decals. Paul Erlendson I've never thought of that...I wonder if there would be any interest? Senna drove a short-tail 956. I personally don't like the short-tail variants as much as the long-tails, but I do think it would be a good subject.

I want to make a short-tail 956 - I need to make a long tail 962 anyway....so that gives me an excuse to buy a 956 to swap out with a 962 tail
