With the 50th anniversary approaching, I thought it only appropriate to build something to celebrate it. I felt there was nothing much better than Neil Armstrong's and Buzz Aldrin's Lunar Module. I was fortunate to have one of the 1/48 Monogram kit in my stash from many years past. The lower decent module was scratch built as it was not in the box when I pulled it out to build (long story). Much of the (top) accent module was modified and many items added. The moon base was from the kit and the test equipment were modified to be more accurate. Decals for both the Lunar Module and the astronauts were after-market. They were created by "Space Model Systems" and are very high quality. Enough said, here it is: (Your comments are encouraged) Please share your comments... v/r, Ben

The lander is very well done. I always look at those at the space museums and think, that would look great in scale. The diorama is an excellent way to finish it off.

CLM1545, Michael, and Jorden; thank you very much... it was a fun project. And Michael, like you, it is close to me as well. I still remember when I watched it for the first time in 1969. I have two other group builds to complete but will soon build the Mercury and Gemini model combo in 1/48. Michael, I've already purchased your great decals for them (the kit ones pale in comparison). I will show them when they are done.

What a great build! Very well done! Like you, I remember the night well--I was still living in Germany then, and recall watching the televised landing on the moon, and looking out the window at the actual moon, and thinking that there are people walking around up there! That presents one of the two problems I have with your model: How could that have happened nearly 50 years ago, as you stated? It seems to me that it was just a few years back! The second issue I have is all those colors, the gold, silver and red, white and blue. You saw it. I saw it! It was on color TV, and it was all black and white!
