This is an extremely rare kit of the Opel RAK.2 rocket car. I've been searching for years for this and finally found #29/100! It's very cleanly cast and rather simple. Almost an oversize 1/43 kit. The wheels and tires in the kit are sourced from the Paul's Model Art Mercedes SSKL and are very nice.

Resin bits have been washed for primer. I'll fill some pinholes and scuff it up beforehand. I plan to build mostly OOB but I will add a little detail around the back rocket engines. I'll also see what I can do about more accurate tires. Primed with Duplicolor Primer Sealer and pinholes filled with Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer.

That's looking good Trevor. What a cool subject to build. Looking forward to seeing the next up-date on this puppy...

Looks really nice but it seems that this should be a really big 1/24 kit. Wild car that I had never heard of before so I looked it up and watched it run at Avus - CRAZY!!!

I’ve seen photos of the real car, but not a model. This one is going to look great. The precursor to the Lotus 78. Paul Erlendson

Really interesting project. Did the wheels and tires come in the kit or did you take them from a diecast? You had to have had an insane amount of courage to drive that thing!

It's not as large as it appears. Here it is beside Bluebird CN7 and a Porsche 962. This car is a pretty crazy attempt at speed but so are most attempts! The wheels came with the kit. No luck finding appropriate tires yet.

After a week in Cuba I'm back at this thing. Fresh eyes and more internet research photos show that the headrest shape is off. It is curved laterally but should be dead straight in profile. The rear bodywork should have some taper exposing the rear spring mounts requiring a wedge shaped cover to fair them in. I'm sure when this kit was mastered 25 years ago few of the currently available references were available! Now to fix it or just build it?!?!?!?!

The kit wheels and tires are beautiful but the more I look at them the more it is apparent they are wrong. The overall diameter is correct but the wheel is too small as a result the tire sidewall is too tall. In addition the tread is incorrect and far too priminent. The new wheels come from the Profil24 Renault 40 CV and the tires an MPC Stutz Bearcat. The replacements are much better but the tread is still not right. The only tire I could find that has the correct tread was the Monogram T35 but they are way too small.

Trevor, What a unique car, & model. I literally didn't even know that either existed. Will be following along till your build is complete.
