Sat on this one for far too long.
Full on resin job of Tambay's championship winning car from 1977. Would love someone to do the Dallara Wolf from that year in 24th as well.
Mate in Bowmanville, Chris Mann, at what was Formula Canada Scale Models did this along with a bundle of Riley and Scotts and a lovely Can AM Shadow from 74. He is back as One Mann Factory doing Sullivan Lola T530s from 1980 and 1981.
Seemed daft that I got one of those sorted before I got this one done which went onto the shelf unit back in January.

OMG!
I got a 43rd and a 32nd slot body but this.....?
Your own work? You can guess the next question.......
Understand Formula Canada moulds went to someone else (Custom FX?) and his latest stuff is in 1.43rd like his FC VDS 001 and March 782.
I know everybody romanticises about the original Can Am but I would have loved to have seen the 77 stuff up close. 13 at the time. At 17 I almost talked my Dad into letting me cross the Atlantic to watch a race in 1980 under the pretext of visiting family but that was never going to happen realistically.

I have mine nearly finished as Jackie Ickx's car as seen by me at Laguna that year... It's to go along with Kevin's Lola T332! Patrick

I have both the 43rd and a 32nd slot body too. A very good friend carved the basic body shape and provided a vac-form copy. I've cast it in resin to work it further but a kit is coming this year now that Corner 5 is back from the dead. Here is Rob's build of his original vac-form body. Trevor

Trevor
Drooling here. That model looks just mega.
Corner 5 Hobbies.
Why do I have a feeling that I know that name from way back ? Am I crossing wires when I think of a 1983 Canadian Tire Frisbee in 1.43?
Guess I need to sort out getting my name on a list for the Dallara Wolf kit that is gonna materialise.......
Getting ahead of myself but have a spot picked out on the shelves already......

I do have the Corner 5 Frisbee kits but I am not the same people. I believe that was a Mini Grid, George Maxwell sub company. You're on the list and I'll add you to the future Galles and Canadian Tire Frisbee list.

I sold my 1/43 Canadian Tire Frisbee a few years ago (maybe to Quattro??) and have often regretted it. Though I'm pretty sure I could not do a 1/43 model any more. So, if you are going to make one in 1/24-25, I'm in. MJ

I was a huge fan of Can-Am (my first road race was Road America '67) and F5000 (LBGP, Questor GP, Riverside) but I always looked at the new Can-Am as a continuation of F5000. Nothing could ever match the original Can-Am. MJ

Forgive me. Ain't worked out the quote thing yet but didn't need it all.
"I thought the name sounded familiar. I sold my 1/43 Canadian Tire Frisbee a few years ago (maybe to Quattro??) and have often regretted it." MJJracer.
Mate. Its is all coming back to me. Yes MINI GRID! Mr Maxwell. Met Scott when he came over in preparation to do Le Mans with the Ascari a few years back. And that is where I found the VDS 01 I thought would never exist. Off the back of that I got in touch with Formula Canada and ended up doing the drawings for the instruction leaflets for Mr Mann's kits!
Found the Canadian Tire Frisbee kit over here many moons ago and eventually sent it Mr Mann in Bowmanville coz I know he was big on modelling Canadian Racing related subjects. He in turn used it to mould me a simple body to convert to the 1981 Sullivan car. I think Yank Models was going to produce the Sullivan car but I doubt that will see the light of day. Worth looking out for as still listed on GPM site....

This thread brought back a few memories. I bought a lot of models from Mini Grid when they were operating out of their home in Agincourt. Scots mom was the person I dealt with the most. Interesting also the mention of a dealer for models in Bowmanville. I lived in the extreme other end of Toronto so going to Bowanville was a bit of a haul. There was another guy, name escapes me, he was a racer and had a driving school at Mosport. He was the dealer for John Day Kits. I would talk to him on the phone tell him I was coming and he was never there. Finally gave up and that is how I ended up finding Mini Grid. Met another modeller there Dean Pollouci (spelling could be totally wrong) he was a really nice guy and at the time was making his living doing 1/43 scale cars for customers.

This thread is totally a time machine. Scott Maxwell is in Sebring FL for I think obvious reasons. He is heavily involved with Multimatic and did much of the testing of the latest Ford GT and also the Mustang GT4. Probably not a bad thing you missed out on John Day kits I first went to Minigrid in my early teens when they were on Hwy.7 in Unionville. Every penny I made cutting lawns and blowing snow was spent on 1/43 kits!

Really, really good work everyone! I love the era and these cars...
I really wish somebody would make this in 1/18 die-cast with a removable and detailed rear section. I would scoop one or two not those up right now...

Various European manufacturers are churning out late 70s and early 80 stuff by the ton in 1.18th at the mo. But I doubt they would ever do anything from that era that raced over there. Guess Replicarz would be a decent bet. 1.18th would absolutely mega but if I had a choice a 1.24th Lola T530 would mean keeping it in the 'family' and all those options from Tambay and Sullvan to Rosberg, Forbes Robinson and of course the unforgettable Ricardo Londono Bridge!
