Racer.com has pictures, video with Scott Dixon and commentary regarding the test of the new IndyCar windscreen at Phoenix yesterday. Seems quite promising as a way to provide more driver protection. It is .4" thick made by PPG who used jet fighter plane technology to reduce or eliminate distortion. Its shape, configuration, and the way it is attached look like a throw-back to earlier dirt track cars and roadsters to me. I actually like it and surely hope that it does the job. Losing Justin was too much. Jim

I read an interview with Dixy, and he said it only took a few minutes for his eyes to get comfortable. He said there was no real distortion and there was no buffeting in the cockpit. He also said that if was wierd that it was so quiet in the car, almost like being in a sedan. The only drawback was that it got really hot, due to no air movement. He's waiting to see how it handles on a road or street course.

That may be a big issue in July or August. We don't want drivers passing out from the heat at 200mph.

I like it! Way better than that thing in F1. It seems they are hell bent on making those cars even uglier.
They may have to mandate cooling vents for the driver, doing the same on each car so it's all even. I have to say I'm pretty confident in the folks making technical decisions in Indycar these days. A nice improvement from the past.
Nice to see the new cars in action. Well, it will be when some of them get on track. :-) I think I need to check with Southwest for airfare to Phoenix!
