Jordan (indy) came up with some really good guidelines to govern our conduct on the board and I think it’s a good time to share them here. Please consider these policies when you post here in order to maintain the good order of this forum.
- Be nice. Mom was right, if you can’t say anything nice then you probably shouldn't say it. The Internet has become a place for negativity to be unleashed in epic proportions and it is discouraging for me to even check those places anymore. Twitter, Facebook, news article comment sections, discussion forums, etc seem to be more often used for complaining than anything else. I want this forum to be an oasis from the normal online garbage where guys look forward to coming here every day (or like me every hour LOL). If you cannot get along with another guy here, do not engage them in conversation and if they PM you, ignore it or block them. Do not send hateful private messages, do something better with your time.... like building a model/die-cast.
- Focus on the eras you like, instead of criticizing the ones you do not. Everyone here has a favorite era and they cover literally every year of Indy/F1/open wheel racing. For example, stating you hate the new car, etc every time there is a race discussion will not be tolerated. As always, debating "The Split" is forbidden - nothing good ever comes out of it.
- Be judicious with humor. Personally, I love to cut up and have a good time - always. Having said that it should be noted that jokes, sarcasm, etc do not translate well on the internet and posting something that is funny to the whole audience here is pretty much impossible. I don't want the forum to not be fun but sometimes I read posts and I'm scratching my head thinking "were they trying to be funny?" These posts might be edited or deleted if necessary.
- Don't swear. Took this one from Randy Ayers NASCAR Modeling Forum (RANMF) and I think it helps keep discussions calmer. We do use the censor words feature here and add to it when needed.
- Use good grammar. Took this one from the old Brian's Model Car forum and they had a good point. With part of the forum being members with whom English is not their primary language, it helps them.
- No hate speech. Can you put a swastika or Confederate flag on a build here? On a limted basis the answer is yes, within the guidelines of historical accuracy. Can you posts endorsing the hate sometimes associated with those symbols here? No and additionally these symbols will not be allowed on avatars and/or signatures.
- No personal attacks. You may not like everyone here and everything they do but personal attacks will not get you anywhere here.
- Be respectful of each other. We are all different: raised in different families, communities, eras, etc. Opinions will differ, you need to make peace that not everyone is going to think like you do.
- Take care of our vendors. Have a problem with Randy Resin or Dan Decal? Take it up with them offline first. Please give them a chance to make a mistake/error/issue right. Posts that say, "He's a crook" get deleted because we cannot leave the forum in a potentially liable situation. Also, be thankful for what vendors give us. These guys aren't getting rich off of us and are usually on the edge of burnout at any time. If we do not take care of them, they will close up shop and we will not longer have their great products. With Chris Etzel it was said his burn out was expedited by customers becoming dismissive of his latest efforts and always asking for something else.
- In the same vein, please keep all personal business transactions between board members private via email or PM unless you cannot get in contact with them, if that happens get in contact with the board administrator (1961Redlegs).
- Do not take credit for someone else's work. There was a great reference guy and he got kicked off of RANMF for posting 1/18 Carousel 1 Indy diecasts as his 1/25 builds. He spent years here after that being a great reference guy here until he decided to post someone else's 1/20 MFH 1967 F1 Eagle build here as his own. His account was temporarily disabled after posting someone else's work and without coming clean, his account has stayed disabled to this day.
- Post opinions as opinions, not facts. There are two sides to every discussion and if you cannot respect the other side, you should not post your point of view here.
- Be kind and careful when offering constructive criticism. We have a lot of experts here who can deluge a build will all sorts of minutia to make an almost perfect build. That expertise makes this place great. That said, we don't want guys to not post here for fear of "rivet counters". Limit advice/constructive criticism to builds and WIPs that ask for it.
- Try to keep it PG. I know most of us are adults but I still want to have a forum that you could show to a child or teenager without having to worry about what they will read/see.
- Remember we cannot all be happy all of the time. Some rules/ruling here might not go your way, let's all be adults and realize that is part of life in a diverse community.
