Driver of the #4 confirmed to be 19-year-old Brazilian, Matheus Leist, who ran Indy Lights in 2017. He won on the Indy oval, Road America, and Iowa.
Andretti Autosport - #26 Veach, #27 Rossi, #28 Hunter-Reay, #98 Andretti, #? Wilson (Indy only), #? Munoz (Indy only) Stef Wilson and Carlos Munoz get Indy 500 only rides. Sato left to return to Rahal. Zach Veach signs multi-year deal.
Carlin Racing - #23 Kimball, #59 Chilton New team confirmed drivers and Chevy power on Dec 12th.

Could they run Bourdais, Fittipaldi, Daly, and the last car for De Melo or Mann? Mann says she will announce her 500 plans soon and Zach is mum about the 500, so she seems most likely for the 4th Coyne seat.

Ed Carpenter Racing - #20 Carpenter (ovals)/ King (r/c's), #21 Pigot JR Hildebrand out as Spenser Pigot goes from P/T in #20 to a F/T seat in the #21. Brit Jordan King comes from F2 to split the #20 with Ed Carpenter. King convinced by friend Rossi to come to IndyCar.

Don't expect Alonso next year. He'll be re-signing with McLaren (as they've switched to Renault power) and will run the entire season.
And that should read "Conor" Daly. :-)

I believe Harding is already set for 1 full time car. The question is the 2nd entry. Whether it's full time, Indy only or not happening at all.

If Brendan Hartley does remotely well at Austin on Sunday, he may well get signed by Toro Rosso. It'll be interesting to see how this ends up.

Thanks for the input guys. Crazy couple of weeks but I went ahead and added Wickens to SPM for 2018 - the new "Team Canada" as it is being dubbed.
Wasn't there talk of Michael Shank reconsidering IndyCar again, too....

I was surprised to read that Chip sign Ed Jones to drive the #10. Hartley's F1 gig must have changed his 2018 plans to come stateside. Updated the top post.

Jordan Good for Ed - I think he did very well with Coyne last year. I'm guessing with this signing, and Hartley running for STR again in Mexico, there may be a certain Russian driver with lots of F1 experience available. MJ

Pretty shocked and saddened to see Daly lose his ride with Foyt - IMO he is the only reason the team looked halfway respectable at times.

The timing stinks, not a classy move by the Foyt team. I think the new driver brought money from Brazil. I have to wonder if TK had any influence in this decision.

A couple of thoughts here. First, I’m happy for Ed Jones, he raced well and having Scott Dixon for a teammate should help him develop as a racer.
The Conor Daly move stunned me to be honest, I figured he would have been back with Foyt. Daly consistenly improved as throughout the season. That makes me think it may be a money issue more than performance. I know ABC’s a generous sponsor, but I wonder if that generosity’s going to pay TK or if they cut back what they were spending.
Daly hopefully lands somewhere. Coyne now has an open seat as does Carpenter for road/street courses, maybe Conor gets one of those. He’s an asset to the series.
Matheus Leist, Daly’s replacement, had a good season in Indy Lights and comes with some money. Marshall Pruett spoke about the performances of Leist on his most recent podcast and he felt Leist could use another Lights season to see whether he’s the real deal. That makes me believe that as good as Leist did, it was his checkbook that got him the ride.

Danica announced her retirement from full-time NASCAR competition. Plans two final races in 2018: Daytona 500 and then finishing with the Indy 500. Rahal, Andretti, and Penske have all said they are not in the running for her running for them at Indy. Chip’s had a few initial talks at least with her people.

Danica announced her retirement from full-time NASCAR competition. and hit the wall tonight. Pretty much sums up her Nascar career with lots of bad luck and crashes. I'll be curious to see how she this Indy deal works out....I think its going to be a mistake...

Say what you will about Danica, but I think the sport definitely benefited from her having been there. I also think she was an excellent role model and the TV networks would do well to consider her for a color commentator slot.

My feelings about her are mixed, but the fact she's been there has mattered and I give her a ton of credit for her efforts. As I wrote on Facebook yesterday, sometimes it isn't the races you win so much as the people you inspire, and Danica has been a hero to a lot of youngsters out there. I hope among them will be the first woman to win at Indy, to win a Daytona 500, to win a championship.

I’ve softened on Danica and am something of a supporter now, but I don’t know how I feel about this one. The talent of the field is keener than when she last ran and I doubt she can recapture her magic.

Lets see if regret that I've posted. That's why I limit forum contributions. I was glad to see her go to NASCAR. The Danica marketing machine was taking away from Indycar as a whole in my opinion. The few people I'm around that follow racing won't give Indycar the time of day partly because of her. Apparently they still remember. When she was in it, she was part of the problem for those that are already race fans. Not sure she brought new race fans into the sport, just Danica fans. But that's obviously debatable. One said that Danica was the problem, and he's the youngest of this small group of racing fans I know. This part of the sport wasn't hurt by her leaving. Overall, it looks like the fan base has been growing. It is some of the best racing on the planet.
Just not sure Danica is coming into it at the right time since this new car isn't planted to the ground like the old one. Not that a NASCAR is, but this one is going faster. I think she'll struggle. Hopefully she'll get testing time and the team she is with will give her the assistance she needs. Not sure others do this as well as Andretti does. I think of her as a journeyman driver, and I think her journey should end at Daytona. At best, she'll run up out front because of strategy. But not when it matters. I have a lot of respect for her abilities. Just think she'll be out of her element and struggle and too much time has past since her last Indycar race. But maybe she'll surprise me. Racing drivers have a way of doing that.

Carlin Joins Verizon IndyCar Series for 2018 Season Confirming Drivers Chilton and Kimball. Chevy to power the team. I did not see any information on car numbers.
To the original list, I also added AJ Foyt's second driver and Mike Shank Racing, which announced a partial schedule a few days ago.

Top post is updated to reflect the latest on Carlos Munoz reuniting with Andretti for the 500. Ed Carpenter announced his road course specialist this year. Finally, news broke this morning of an Juncos' confirming a driver for at least four races this year.
Not much left to firm up for the 2018 regular season. Coyne's second driver has not been announced, I have not seen anything from Harding's team, and that is about it unless some of the partial programs expand or something unexpected comes out. Then of course there are still more drivers/cars for the 500 that have yet to be announced.

Harding Racing has confirmed a F/T entry for Gabby Chaves and the intention to run a second car at the 500 plus select other races. They ran Indy, Texas, and Pocono last year which makes them the most experienced new team coming into IndyCar.
Not driver news, but Leena Gade who had great success at LeMans with Audi is joining SPM as Lead Race Engineer.
Did you see the cars in their liveries at the Sebring test? I think this is the best looking version of the DW12 yet!

I was looking at DCR's twitter feed looking for something else when I found three interesting pieces of information: - Dale Coyne, Jimmy Vasser and James “Sulli” Sullivan announced today the creation of Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan, to compete in the Verizon IndyCar Series beginning with the 2018 season. This is for the #18 car running Seabass (Vasser and Sullivan ran him at KV Racing Technology and KVSH Racing) but the #19 will still be run under the traditional Dale Coyne Racing banner. - Seabass got a new sponsor (I like the nose) - Pietro Fittipaldi (Emmo's grandkid) is testing today for the team. Sounds like he could be in the running for the #19 for at least part of the season. Jordan
