Back in high school I made up a car company called Carmoletti. I drew many of them, but I also built an IMC Lotus and bashed out a psudo-F1 in team colors of blue body and yellow stripes. I have used the name to build phantom cars and now this famed constructor wants to build a replica of the Formula Ford car they produced back in 1978...so here we go... This was a Roxy toys no.818 supposed to be a McLaren M7A! Well, it is in 1/28, but when compared to my Lotus and Brabham models it's perfect for a smaller formula car. I always wanted to model a FF and had a 1600 I-4 Ford engine from somewhere (maybe a Pinto kit?). I'm going to use the Merlyn Mk11A as a guide for my model... I started to have a partial space frame chassis in the engine bay area, but got crazy and decided to do a full frame chassis as it was just as easy to do it that way. It will also gave me something to attach the suspension parts to... Patrick

3 hours later I have the space frame chassis done...I was originally only going to do the engine bay frame only... As I said, it's just as easy to do the whole bloody thing... I'm having fun with this! Patrick

Great concept and start, Patrick. Are you keeping the body mostly stock or are you doing any surgery to the car to make it more Carmoletti?
It is fun to see you really cranking stuff out lately. It is always fun to log on here and see a build or WIP update! Jordan

I never realized how many uncompleted projects I have. I'm going to be 70 this December and want to catch up on those tail draggers! Patrick

Your work is outstanding as usual. I wish I had half of your insight into how to create something like this. This one is somewhat inspirational as I've always like the junior formulas - FF, F2000, Super Vee, Atlantics, etc.
Maybe now I can get some ideas how to do it - it will certainly give a reason to use the MiniExotics Cosworth BDA kit that has been on the shelf for 20 years.

Holy cats!!!! I have always wanted one to make a Formula Atlantic. I wish we could still get Mini-Exotics parts. Tony's work was wonderful. I did get a Lotus Twin-cam engine that is sitting in a Brabham SCCA Formula B...

The MiniExotics parts were really good (I still have a Ferrari V12 also) but mine are cast in that funny amber resin. Maybe I should see if anyone wants to re-pop the Cosworth BDA.
Then we can try to convince Lance or Kevin or Calvin to do an Atlantic...

The BDA was a many useful powerplant. A 2-liter sports car is cool, too! Patrick

I was going to let you guys know that I am going to do some custom casting work. Any one who is interested please get in contact with me at silvercitymodels@comcast.net. I will not reproduce any items that was create by current and previous resin casters!! I can do original masters and parts from kits such as the MPC Hewland and the AM Hewland gearboxes, etc. Prices will depend on the item(s) casted. Keep in mind that price of the mold to be made and resin used will reflect in pricing. Patrick, are those coilovers one piece? What's the secret to those results? Jordan I take the dampers(LOL) from the AMT Lotus (a fave parts source!) and wire. I then paint the thing reddish for Koni or silver for Armstrong. Then I carefully wrap the wire (silver or black) around the spring. It's a bit fiddley, but it does look amazingly better than trying to paint the bloody things!! Patrick

Really cool, Patrick. I wish Team Carmoletti (with the Cobra power :-)) great success.
So you're the guy that bought the Lola single-seat Can-Am I was watching for months. How is it? I went to many F5000 & ss Can-Am races at Riverside and always loved the Lola.

I would only recommend it if you really wanted one. I got mine for $60 at the NNL. First off it has many pin holes, second the fit is rough, third the trans/engine is a lump, fourth the the parts casting are a lump, too, and fifth the instructions suck IMHO! All that said it will look nice next to Kevin's Lola T332! A unique model anyway... Patrick
